About Fonteverde Tuscan Resort & Spa

The Medici family often visited the natural spring waters and even built the first spa on the spot where Fonteverde Tuscan Resort & Spa now stands. Today, with a beautiful spring-fed pool, sumptuous guest rooms, and gourmet cuisine, the hotel has kept the same level luxury once enjoyed by the sometimes infamous Italian family.

Fonteverde makes use of the area's renowned mineral spring water. Its seven thermal hot spring swimming pools are constantly fed by the Ferdinando I dei Medici, named in honor of the founder of the first spa on the site Fonteverde now occupies. Waters are naturally 107 degrees Fahrenheit (42 degrees Celsius) and contain sulfate, calcium, magnesium, and fluoride. One of the pools is equipped with a waterfall, a counter-current circuit, underwater benches, and a swan neck sculpture from which a water jet provides a hydromassage. The signature Bioaquam circuit® is a current favorite.

Five weekly programs are available—Spa Experience, The Ultimate Facial, Ancient Mediterranean, Thermal Beauty, Oriental Energy, Diet Experience—but guests can also choose treatments a la carte. The spa menu encompasses everything from oriental medicine to medical consultations to aesthetics. A medley of massage modalities are available, including the Original Ayurvedic Massage, carried out by Indian Master, Dipu. Mat Pilates, stretching, spinning classes, step aerobics, and more are offered at the fitness center.

Fonteverde has dedicated a garden area and a thermal pool to pets. Guests with four-footed companions can stay in special rooms with Cotto Veneto (an Italian tile company) floors, and pet-sitting is available.

    Rooms & Dining

It's easy to imagine a member of the Medici family or of Europe's aristocracy enjoying the resort's 78 richly appointed rooms and suites. Burnt sienna and soft gold accents can be found throughout, and terraces overlook the surrounding countryside. The bathrooms have been designed as "miniature spas," with marble and great attention to detail.

The elegant restaurant, Ferdinando I, takes a healthful approach to traditional Tuscan cuisine. International fare is also served, and special dietary restrictions, including vegetarian diets, can be easily accommodated. At La Corte, guests can also enjoy buffet-style lunches showcasing regional specialties. Gourmet and spa cuisine at both restaurants are prepared with natural ingredients.

    Activities

San Casciano dei Bagni, the small village in which Fonteverde is located, has been known since Roman times for its 42 natural mineral water springs. Today, the charming village features shops and restaurants, as well as festivals that are held throughout the year and weekly markets.

Guests can also enjoy the Val d'Orcia, a nearby natural park designated an UNESCO World Heritage Center. Once a favorite backdrop used by Renaissance painters, the vast park encompasses rolling hills, olive groves, and vineyards. Horseback riding, hiking, and mountain biking are also offered in the surrounding area.

Im a spa enthusiast and this place is amongst my top list. Special here is the great newly decorated rooms. This is an old estate converted to a spa hotel. Thermal mineral waters, new spa added, great dining room and really in a cute town just about 15 mintues from Piza. This is a place to spend a few days at and really enjoy a piece of Italy. The bar is to write home about for decor. Bartender knows his stuff and is fun to talk to

There aren't too many words that can capture the utter beauty that is Tuscany in the summertime. Then to put on top of that one of the most beautiful spa experiences in the world and I'm rendered utterly speechless! But I'll try...breathtaking views from every pool (and there are many!); relaxing thermal waters; an on-site doctor guiding you to the treatments you want/need; a plethora of treatments on offer for both inner and outer beauty and wellness; fine dining overlooking hillsides of gold. I could go on and on. Suffice to say - Fonteverde is a place I would HIGHLY recommend - even if you're just passing through and visit as a day guest you can still enjoy the luxury of it's pure natural beauty, superb spa and fine dining.

Difficult not to go overboard with this review. Fonteverde is a stunning 5 star property - fantastic bedrooms and public rooms and the outside dining - with brilliant service - was amazing (and tasty). The spa experience is extremely well planned - loved the water with a great combination of hot mineral water and cool pool. Had an aromatherapy massage and a microdermabrasion facial - felt the years falling away. For a getaway spa experience - unbeatable.

I always wondered what the phrase "taking the waters" meant until I actually experienced it at Fonteverde in Tuscany. The Bioaquam Circuit is a multi-sensory series of pools with hot, medium and cold water, different pressure and a sweeping view of the Tuscan countryside. What a wonderful way to unwind before or after one of the outstanding spa treatments. I especially loved lying on the outdoor beds in the hot waters with steam rising all around me while mild rain fell. The most notable part of my visit was the thirty minute Reflexology I had with Dipu. In one minute he had diagnosed exactly what was out of balance in my body and instantly - and a bit painfully - worked it out. The result lasted way beyond what I usually have encountered. Can't wait to return and try the "Dipu" five senses massage. I hear he books up many months in advance.Fonteverde is an outstanding resort spa with incredible food, wine, fitness and, of course, spa. I highly recommend it.

This is it, this is the place to relax, hike, spa, read, fine dining and wonderful rooms. The spa is like no other I have seen. It is all new with many treatments including Ayurvedic, western and great water treatments. Property is a historic Meduci family estate and is completely renovated. Plan on spending money here but you will not find many mineral water properties at this high of a level.....and with a spa that actually over delivers.
