I was so excited when someone gave me a gift certificate to this huge and welcoming spa. All of that excitement towards looking forward to some well needed relaxation went out the window when my massage started. I received a hydro massage for the first time. The massage itself was a bit of a let down, just not all that it's cracked up to be. And to top it off the masseuse wouldn't stop talking through the entire thing. Every person I've spoken with that has gone there feels that it's very overpriced for what you get. I would agree. Luckily I didn't have to pay for my visit.

I went in for an 80 minute massage with a senior therapist. Gordon is phenomenal. I would definitely recommend requesting him for your massage. If you get a massage though and they ask if you want deep tissue--SAY NO! It will cost you $20 more when you are already receiving a phenomenal massage. Absolutely wonderful experience.

I have had many massages all around Anchorage and I was not overly impressed with the atmosphere here. I guess I expected that if you pay $30 more for a massage you're treated like royalty (or so to speak). The only reason I went to Allure is that I got a gift card for my wedding. First I do have to say that my therapist did a very good job. The only thing different about Allure than any other place I've been to is that you change into a robe in a changing room, then sit in a lobby (with other people, some of whom aren't getting treatments) waiting for your therapist. I'd personally rather undress in my massage room and get under the covers to wait. Also, every other place I've been to, they offer you water at the end of the massage. I wasn't offered water at Allure. I'd have to say that the experience was more like an assembly line and they're just trying to make money off of you. Would not reccomend.

Allure is struggling... to say the leastBy BarbaraS | September 24, 2010

I was supposed to have my hair styled for pictures and set up my appointment WEEKS in advance. The day I arrived, I was put with someone completely different. My stylist wasn't even coming in, but they didn't even call to tell me. The gal who styled my hair did a less than average job so I ended up going home and starting over.

I loved the Vichy treatment. I had the senior massage therapist and he was very professional and made me feel very comfortable. The only thing I wish they offered was couples massage but other than that a great place.

I just moved to Anchorage with my husband who is in the Air Force. After 13 days on the road, I was in need of a good massage. As a massage therapist myself, I did a lot of research into the spa offerings around town. I visited at least 10 different spas before deciding which one I would give my loyalty to. (Incidentally, Allure does NOT offer a military discount, which is surprising and disappointing to me since Anchorage has such a strong military population.)
To be honest, I was very tempted to choose Allure at first because they are the big name around town. I soon discovered that that's about all they are. All talk, very little substance. They've definitely got the corner on the market, but the actual quality of their service is unreliable. During my massage, I learned that Allure has upwards of 30 massage therapists, most of whom are fresh out of school, and a turn around rate for employees like you wouldn't believe. Definitely not the nature of a spa I'm interested in frequenting.
One (possible) oversight that stood out to me during my visit was the remarkable absence of an intake form. If indeed it was a mistake, which I think it was not, my therapist didn't even verbally check in with me about my medical history or any other possible contraindications to massage. It was an uncomfortable situation, knowing that my therapist was working on me blind, so to speak. It is unprofessional and dangerous.
On a positive note, Allure's facility is gorgeous and very soothing. The spa has two floors, which creates mystique. The chance to lounge in a robe in public is a rare treat and much appreciated. Unfortunately, you have to pay to park if you want to be anywhere near Allure's building, which is a hassle and an inconvenience. Ultimately, you're taking a chance with any of their service providers, and I personally am not willing to spend $95+ for that risk.
