I got a spafinder.com gift certificate for my birthday back in July & waited to use it for when I was in Maui as I always wanted to get a spa treatment there. The facility was clean and great. I had the best foot & back massage from a male. But the facial was kinda rushed & wasn't exactly what I was expecting. There wasn't really any massage in the facial, & I understand it was just a 25 min. service but there should have been some sort of massage on my back, shoulders, & neck. I would return again, but only for a massage & no facial.

Don't go out of your way ...

Would have enjoyed my massage if my masseuse hadn't talked the ENTIRE time about her personal life - so strange! - and the massage rooms have a lovely view, but the beds face away from it - perhaps that's a perk for the employees only? Chose an express mani-pedi the day we left, hoping to go home with bright fingers and toes. The manicurist was almost hostile. Complained endlessly about her personal life and the fact that employees can't accept 'gifts' from guests. Results were average. Overall I was extremely disappointed. Wailea is home to some fantastic spas. This isn't one of them.

Aloha, We would like to thank you for your feedback regarding your spa experiences in massage and nails. Feedback helps us to improve our guest service and find ways to further enhance the overall spa experience. Although, our spa employees do try to provide a wonderful experience for our guests in conversation, we certainly do not recommend that our spa staff avoid their personal viewpoints. Further, we do appreciate your kindness in providing gifts to our staff members, but our staff is not permitted to accepts gifts. We do appreciate your feedback, we do apologize for your overall spa experiences. We will definitely do our best to learn and improve our spa guest experience. Mahalo.

My husband and I nearly didn't book our couples massage after reading one of the reviews, so I felt I should write my view. I called from home before leaving on my vacation and the person I spoke with wasn't very friendly. After I got to Maui, I called to cancel. The person I spoke with was wonderful and told me about a special couple massage without the facial. I decided to book. I got to the facility and the massage therapists were super! Not heavy on the buy our lotions, etc. Very calming and they allowed our two children (18 and 21) to use the facilities while we were there. I almost kept that spa feeling through the flight home that nite--that's good!

Celebrating a family trip to Maui, we had the couples massage with facials. Placed in a big massage room with awesome ocean views of the Hawaiian islands. The room had a jacuzzi and private shower. Staff was great and helpful.

No protection against mosquitoes for the sunset massage outside
By MakoW | May 6, 2010

My husband and I had a massage. When we checked in they let me wait for 30min. There were 3 staff and all of them were arguing with a customer. None of them said thanks for waiting or something. The spa will force you to tip 20% before having any services. It sounded like a very nice idea to have a massage outside during the sunset hour. There were some mosquitoes were in the cabana and I told the man who gave me a massage but he totally ignored me and did nothing. He just said there were almost always some mosquitoes. I had some bites and complained. They still charged me the 20% tip for the guy who gave me a massage even I said I was not satisfied with the services. We also wrote a letter to the manager of the spa but there was no reply.

Thank you very much for your May 2010 review about your spa experience in January 2009. We do apologize about your overall experience. We actually stopped doing Sunset Cabana Massages in the beginning of 2009. The photo, you see on the website was actually taken in the late afternoon with a bright light in the cabana and on a very cloudy day makes everything look darker around it. It is such a beautiful photo of the Pacific Ocean and the Island of Lanai (which are views you will see at our cabana) we decided to keep it. With your review in Spa Finder, we would like to sincerely thank you for bringing to our attention your concerns. We have certainly take all necessary steps to improve. With guests comments they always help us to improve and to further enhance our guest's overall spa experience. Mandara Spa, Wailea
