About CHI, The Spa at Shangri-La Hotel, Vancouver

The Shangri-La Hotel, Vancouver opened its doors in 2009, marking the Shangri-La brand's entry into North America. The property, located in downtown Vancouver, encompasses the first 15 floors of a 61-story skyscraper, which holds the title of the city's tallest building. Hotel interiors are modern with Asian-influenced decor, with stylish amenities including well-appointed accommodations, many of which provide magnificent skyline views, and MARKET by Jean-Georges restaurant, where guests can enjoy regional cuisine.

Signature treatments at CHI, The Spa are based upon the Asian five elements of metal, water, wood, fire, and earth; upon arrival, guests answer a questionnaire designed to establish their own element, allowing their therapist to best personalize treatments based on the guests' needs. Ample meeting and event space is available, and the hotel's prime downtown location is within close proximity to much of the city's shopping, nightlife, and sightseeing spots.

Menu of Services

With six private treatment suites and a menu of ancient Asian holistic rituals, CHI, The Spa has created an intimate oasis for guests to unwind and rebalance their "chi." Exotic spa treatments like the Yin Yang Harmonizing Massage utilize tai chi techniques, and signature therapies are inspired by CHI's five elements—metal, water, wood, fire, and earth.

The CHI Balance Massage is the spa's hallmark service; the 70-minute treatment includes a steam shower and welcoming foot ritual. Other highlights include the Pure Silk & Cashmere Body Wrap, combining the benefits of silk protein, aloe vera and lotus extract and commencing with a full-body glow and a dry peeling with silk gloves that primes skin for the cashmere and silk set. Also featured is the spa's exclusive Pearl Radiance Facial.

The six suites come furnished with a shower, fireplace, and bathroom, allowing guests to create their own private and relaxing space. The five-element spa cuisine is available to be paired up with any treatment for total wellbeing.

Worth a Visit
Let me start off with the bad. The only thing that got on my nerves is that you have to pay an extra $30 to use the steam room for 20 min, like the services weren't expensive enough already. Also, the whole concept of individual spa suites is a great idea, but it also makes you feel like you have to leave in a hurry for the next guest. There's really no relaxation lounge, just a common waiting area beside the reception. I got the Pearl Radiance facial, great facial, great service. A little on the more expensive side. But I guess it comes with the territory. Would go back if I have the dough.

Chi spa is by far the best spa in Vancouver . I always find myself totally taken care off from the moment I enter the spa.and it seems to me that it is still the best kept secret in the city. The phylosophy of the treatment makes it unique as your therapist will determine what will work best for you. Your suroundings are luxurious but most importantly the experience will most likely remain unparraleled until your return.

Hidden Gem
I first found this spa after a friend was kind enough to buy me a gift card. I had a treatment (CHI Balance Massage) which was performed in the most luxurious massage room I've ever visited. This visit lived up to the quote in the brochure of being a spa within a spa, as I felt totally relaxed and private while in my own treatment suite. Steam shower and personal changing facility A+. My therapist was attentive and seemed to know every muscle that needed attention. I left walking on air, I will be back.
