The Hyatt Regency Tamaya Resort & Spa sits on 500 acres in the native land of the Pueblo of Santa Ana, New Mexico, on the banks of the Rio Grande, just 20 minutes from Albuquerque and 40 minutes from Santa Fe.

Tamaya, meaning place of the people in the language of the Tamayme, has been inhabited for more than a thousand years and has long been a sacred spot. The resort remains faithful to this colorful heritage with regionally inspired cuisine, pueblo-style accommodations, and a full-service spa and salon offering indigenous treatments.

After playing the links on the property's Gary Parks-designed course, guests can retreat to the grand courtyard, outfitted with Huruna bread-baking ovens, a tribal dance circle, and three swimming pools.

Catering to all types of travelers, the resort provides extensive meeting facilities, stables, and family-designed programs.

The Tamaya Mist Spa & Salon features an extensive menu of healing treatments inspired by the beautiful Southwestern setting and its Native American culture and designed to "restore physical and spiritual tranquility."

Interiors are decorated in rich earth tones of dark browns, warm reds, and deep greens, and the soothing aroma of cedar incense, traditionally used by regional tribes to attract good spirits, fills the air. Treatment rooms total 13, and additional fixtures comprise an outdoor sauna, steam room, hot tub, and relaxation areas, where guests can sunbathe.

Signature services, including the Ancient Drumming ritual, incorporate elements native to the area such as blue corn, desert sea salt, and mud from the Jemez Mountains.

The 16,000-square-foot complex also encompasses a full-service salon and a fitness center. Healthy spa cuisine is available.

I’m a local and received a gift certificate to Tamaya. I had forgotten how lovely the drive out is! The swimming pool is very difficult to get to from the spa and is quite a hike. You also have to pay extra to use the swimming pool facility if you are not a guest. The outdoor hot tub was very comforting on this beautiful day. I found the treatment rooms and overall décor rather bland. I did receive a very good massage and facial by two highly experienced and tenured staff. Although the products on the facial and the waxing were too intense for my delicate and sensitive skin and I broke out for days later. The body wrap was a big let down; you could not even smell the herbs. Had the esthetician not stayed in the room and given me a scalp massage, it would have been a complete waste of money. I was bad an ordered a delicious burger and margarita at the bar before I had to drive home. I had a great day at Tamaya and will visit there again.

Tamaya was a wonderful experience. The outdoor hot tub is in the ladies only part of the spa. Mature people go there to relax. Its a bit pricey, but all the amenities are there for you. Love the oils, massage rooms, etc. The main pool area has outdoor food. When I am at a resort I am there for renewal, so I ordered tea, fruit, ate very light, felt very good. I even made a friend. I went with a friend, but she was in the exercise room first, I wanted to loosen up the bones, free the mind, first. Later in the day I went to the gym, swam, took rental car and went to the fleamarket,. Slept very well. good rooms, good beds, high end linens. Very polite staff. I could see a mesa with a coyote and the sun in the background when I stood in front of the hotel. That was unforgetable. Just like a living postcard.

I TREATED MY DAUGHTER TO HER BIRTHDAY AT THE TAMAYA RESORT. WE HAD A WONDERFUL TIME. THE RESORT IS BEAUTIFUL AND SO PEACEFUL. IT'S SECLUDED SURROUNDINGS AND WALKING TRAILS AND GREAT. WE LOVED OUR LAVENDER SCRUB MASSAGE--IT WAS HEAVENLY AND MUCH NEEDED. THE FOOD WAS TASTY, EXCEPT WE WERE DISAPPOINTED IN THE TORTILLA SOUP, WHICH IS A FAVORITE OF OURS. I WILL BE TAKING MY HUSBAND THERE BEFORE LONG--JUST WHAT THE DOCTOR ORDERED TO DESTRESS. STAFF WAS EXTREMELY HELPFUL AND ACCOMMODATING. CHECK OUT THE FREE BIRTHDAY SURPISES--I DIDN'T KNOW OF THEM UNTIL WE WERE ALREADY THERE--SO GLAD WE WENT THEN. KAY COLORADO JULY 2009

The Tamaya Mist Spa at the Hyatt is a wonderfully relaxing place. When I wasn't enjoying a treatment, I liked to just sit in the private outdoor hot tub or rather stand in it--there is a well you can stand in with jets that massage you over your entire body--delightful! I also enjoyed sitting in the lounge reading and sipping herbal tea. The hot stones massage was a little disappointing--have had better other places. The skin products used are very nice, and I purchased a serenity candle there that had a fabulous fragrance. I thoroughly enjoyed the yoga class which I did twice--excellent instructor. Overall a lovely ambiance.
