Gabrielle Roth's 5Rhythms

The 5Rhythms™ is a moving meditation practice. There are no steps to learn and there is no way to do it wrong. The main premise is that when the body is moving, the mind can be stilled and meditation arises naturally and deeply. The five rhythms are states of being and patterns of energy that underly all aspects of life: flowing, staccato, chaos, lyrical & stillness. In these monthly classes, we will explore the basic elements of the 5 Rhythms through guided exercises and self-exploratory movement: flowing as it connects us to our bodies; staccato bringing us into clarity and focus; chaos to release us from the thoughts that limit us; expansion into the lightness of lyrical and finally resting in the stillness that holds peace and completion.Nancy Genatt has studied with Gabrielle Roth and her core faculty for almost 10 years and is a certified 5Rhythms teacher. For more information about the practice, Gabrielle has written several books; she also

The Complete Yoga (Sampoorna Yoga)

In this mixed level class in which both beginners and experienced are welcome, the focus is not merely on the asanas but to learn and practice the other important aspects of yoga as expounded by sage Patanjali in his Yoga Sutras (the eight limbs of yoga: yamas and the niyamas, pranayama, the bandhas, mudras, mantras, yoga nidra and meditation) and how all these when practiced regularly can open energy channels, remove toxins, improve strength and flexibility, alleviate stress and calm the mind and ensure one's well- being, self-transformation and peace. Consistent with Patanjali's aphorism, Sthira sukham asanam emphasizing stability, stillness and comfort, the asana practice will be so designed that there will be no strong exertion but only exhilaration. The asana segment will concentrate on the natural flow that occurs within related postural groups, and will allow sufficient time to explore internal alignment and proper sensation. The Sanskrit word

Yin Yoga

Yin yoga is a quiet practice suitable for students of all levels of experience. Through the practice of long held postures targeting the connective tissue of the low back, hips and hamstrings, Yin Yoga invites you to slow down and create space for stillness while nourishing joints, ligaments, tendons and fascia. Many of the poses are seated, supine or prone and are held with muscles relaxed for several minutes. There is a focus on the breath, being present in the moment, relieving tension and letting go. The Yin practice includes powerful mental and emotional benefits as its practitioner becomes quiet, still and mindful of the present.
