Tai Chi/Qigong
"Western science and medicine are now proving what Eastern science and medicine have known for thousands of years - there is an energy grid in your body. Several of the ancient ways of accessing this grid (acupuncture, Tai Chi and Qigong) have recently been tested using western scientific methodology. These tests have not only proven their medical efficacy, but by inference, their underlying philosophy. Using Tai Chi and Qigong techniques taught in this class you will learn how to access this grid to greatly improve your health and well being. Tai Chi and Qigong have enormous therapeutic effects including reduced stress, lowered blood pressure, aerobic benefits, stronger bones in post menopausal women, decreased pain in arthritis patients, and improved balance, coordination, blood and energy flow. No more cold hands or feet. The Hunyuan Taiji system is the curriculum for this class. This system focuses on a strong foundation in Qigong and Chen Style Tai Chi" - Lawrence Loofbourrow |

Yoga Nidra
Yoga Nidra is a powerful technique in which you learn to relax consciously. In Yoga Nidra, the state of relaxation is reached by turning inwards, away from outer experiences. One appears to be asleep, but the consciousness is functioning at a deeper level of awareness. For this reason, yoga nidra is often referred to as psychic sleep or deep relaxation with inner awareness. In this threshold state between sleep and wakefulness, contact with the subconscious and unconscious dimensions occurs spontaneously. This is yoga nidra, the state of dynamic sleep. Just come, get into savasana (a pose that involves lying flat on the floor), and enjoy! |

Discussions on Yoga
The teachings of yoga are profoundly relevant for our lives today. Although most of us begin yoga with poses, what many of us don’t know is that the physical practice of yoga is a relatively small part of the entire approach. This class is a gateway which offers students tools to delve deeper into understanding themselves and their world by exploring the spiritual, social and psychological aspects of this 5,000 year tradition of wisdom. The result is an awakening to live more intentionally and effectively, an invitation to feel calm, confident, and clear in each moment. Each class begins with a summary of one of the basic tenets of yoga which leads into an open discussion of how to apply these teachings in our everyday lives. Donations only. All donations go to Bellefonte Community College in Shillong, India. For information about this project, please contact Karissa. |

Yin Yoga
Find strength in stillness! This class will focus on Yin Yoga, which uses long, passive holds of floor poses to work on the deep, dense connective tissues of the body. It is the ideal compliment to more muscular or "Yang" forms of yoga and other athletic activities. A Yin practice explores the ligaments, tendons, and fascia of the hips, thighs, pelvis and lower spine. It is a calming, meditative, but none-the-less challenging practice that releases and opens areas of chronic tightness. This class will combine mostly passive with some active postures and culminate with Yoga Nidra, a systematic way of inducing complete physical, mental and emotional relaxation. The combination of these practices serve to facilitate and deepen your yoga practice. |
