Yoga for Athletes
This is a specifically designed classes for athletes. Whether your sport is golf, tennis, football, lacrosse, soccer, running, swimming, volleyball, you name it, this class will help you to gain flexibility and balance thereby improving form, efficiency and power. Yoga’s focus on concentration and breath will also help to improve mental focus as well as mental endurance. While athletes are strong, the overuse and repetitive nature of certain activities cause an imbalance in certain areas causing the body to function slightly out of alignment. A regular yoga practice can help to regain balance. Stretching muscles also encourages use of fuller range of motion and helps prevent injury from tight muscles which are more prone to acute injury, as well as assisting in the prevention of repetitive-use injuries allowing the body to move more smoothly in sports. Intro to Ashtanga
This modified one hour-long ashtanga series stays true to the original sequence with opening sun salutations and the full standing series of postures, but concludes with the first 4 seated postures only and moves into the finishing sequence of the shoulderstand series. Eliminated in the series are arm balances, backbends, full lotus and some of the more advanced seated postures. Special attention is paid to correct form and alignment so that students build a firm foundation of safe execution of the opening sun salutations and all the strength-building postures. Ashtanga Yoga
The Primary series of Ashtanga is known as “Yoga Chikitsa” or “Yoga Therapy”. Is it a healing sequence of poses known for their cleansing and toning of the Kanda of the body, the lower back, sacrum, hips, waist and solar plexus. The sequence of poses is always the same, with most postures held for 5 or more breaths. Vinyasas between postures are used to maintain heat in the body, build strength in the practitioner and to clear the nervous system of the previous posture, preparing for the next posture in the sequence. This is a specifically designed classes for athletes. Whether your sport is golf, tennis, football, lacrosse, soccer, running, swimming, volleyball, you name it, this class will help you to gain flexibility and balance thereby improving form, efficiency and power. Yoga’s focus on concentration and breath will also help to improve mental focus as well as mental endurance. While athletes are strong, the overuse and repetitive nature of certain activities cause an imbalance in certain areas causing the body to function slightly out of alignment. This modified one hour-long ashtanga series stays true to the original sequence with opening sun salutations and the full standing series of postures, but concludes with the first 4 seated postures only and moves into the finishing sequence of the shoulderstand series. Eliminated in the series are arm balances, backbends, full lotus and some of the more advanced seated postures.
