Yin Yoga

Pilates brings the unique opportunity to train anyone, any age, at any level of fitness, whether your goals are to rehab, find balance and flexibility, strengthen the core, improve postural alignment or enhance athletic performance. The STOTT PILATES method done here at Yin Yang is a contemporary approach to the original exercise method pioneered by the late Joseph Pilates. Co-founders Moira and Lindsay Merrithew along with a team of physical therapist, sports medicine and fitness professionals who have spent more than a decade refining the STOTT PILATES method of exercise and equipment. This has resulted in the inclusion of modern principles of exercise science and spinal rehabilitation, making it one of the safest and effective methods available.

Laura Cappelletti-Owner/Trainer

Laura is the founder and lead trainer at Yin Yang Pilates, Inc. She is trained in all aspects of the STOTT PILATES method (including beginner, intermediate, advanced mat, reformer, chairs, cadillac, barrels and special populations). Laura is certified STOTT PILATES, and has completed 600+ hours of training. Laura has additional training in Pilates Method of Alliance and Balanced Body Pilates. Laura began her career by earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Physical Education with strong emphasis on Exercise Physiology from University of Illinois, Champaign-Urbana. Laura is certified through American Council of Exercise and holds numerous certifications from a variety of disciplines of fitness including, Yoga, Cycle, Pre-Post Natal, Kickbox, AFAA and is a Blue Jersey Master Trainer in Heart Zones. Laura has worked in many avenues of the fitness world including management, events coordinator for Midwest Mania, producer of Cable Networks "The Bottom Line," Pre-Post Natal Presenter for Mid-Town Tennis Club, United States National Aerobic Champion and Cheerleading Coach for six years at St.Anne School in Barrington. When not working in fitness, Laura has worked with the organization Preservation of Human Dignity as a presenter in local High Schools speaking to teens about sexuality and relationships. She is involved in humanitarian work with the ONE organization, Nothing but Nets, for the untouchables in India, and Millennium Promise to put an end to extreme poverty. One of her dreams is to raise enough money to build thirty homes for families she met in India. Each time a client purchases a package of 10-20 Private Pilates Sessions Yin Yang Pilates donates one bed net to families in Africa to protect them from Malaria. Currently, Laura has begun to study the healing arts of Matrix Energy and is a First-Degree Reiki Healer. Laura's Pilates training blends a unique balance of highly effective pilates exercises combined with years of education and experience in the fitness industry, and hopes that a visit to Yin Yang brings Mind-Body Healing and ultimately Mind-Body Wellness!

Chenoa was introduced to Yoga as a teenager and instantly realized the benefits. That is when she began her Yoga journey. In 2009, Chenoa acquired her 200 hour certification from Himalayan Yoga & Meditation Center. Chenoa repeatedly heard students in her classes say they wished they had started Yoga as a child. That is what inspired her to focus her teaching on children. Chenoa then trained at Karma Kids where she was introduced to a new way of teaching Yoga that was conducive to children. In her Yoga Kids classes, Chenoa explores the Yoga asanas through activities, including art, games, and stories. While "playing Yoga", children develop calmness, concentration, coordination, flexibility, strength, and inner awareness. Chenoa is most fulfilled teaching the benefits for a balanced life to children of all ages.

Chris Riske-Trainer

Chris Riske has been with Yin Yang since we opened in May of 2008. Chris, a STOTT PILATES TRAINER, is a self-proclaimed fitness enthusiast. Athletic her whole life, she is now an accomplished triathlete, cyclist and multiple marathon runner. Chris just completed her Associate Degree in Nursing from the College of Lake County and passed her boards to practice nursing here in Illinois. She also has an undergraduate degree in Business from UW-Stevens Point. Chris is also a certified A.C.E. personal trainers and holds certifications in N.E.T.A., A.F.A.A, and has completed the 'Special Populations" through STOTT PILATES. When she isnʼt training her clients, caring for patients, or spending time with her husband and three children, you will find Chris riding her road bike on the back roads of northern Illinois on into southern Wisconsin.

Stott Pilates Certified Trainer, Cardio Kickbox, Muscle Conditioning, Synergy Instructor Nicole is a Certified STOTT PILATES instructor. Nicole has been trained in all aspects of Pilates, Mat, Reformer, Chair, Barrels and Special Populations. She has trained clients of from all walks of life including athletes, rehab, seniors and kids! For many years Pilates has been an integral part of Nicole's conditioning and she continues to advance her training through additional workshops and seminars. In addition, Nicole teaches cycling, zumba and a variety of muscle conditioning classes. Nicole resides in the Northwest Suburbs of Chicago having moved here from Orange County, California in the summer of 2009. In California she was a fitness instructor, Track and Field coach, and a swim coach working with everyone from people with fear of water to seasoned triathletes. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Business from Portland State University and has three children at home to keep her busy. Nicole is an avid runner and triathlete having completed over 20 triathlons and several half and full marathons. She has found Pilates training to be the perfect formula for all of her athletic endeavors. She also believes Pilates is a way to improve lifestyle and wellness in all people, regardless of their current fitness level.

Melissa Hollander-Yoga Teacher

Melissa studied with Wendy Dahl at Blue Sun Yoga for her 200-hour yoga certification. She also holds a certification in prenatal yoga training from the Global Yoga and Wellness Center in Chicago. Melissa has continued her studies taking workshops with teachers such as Sean Corn, Wade Imre Morissette, Marcha Wenig, Mira Binzen, and Gabriel Halpern. She is also certified in Group Kick from Body Training Systems and in indoor cycle with Mad Dogg Athletics. In addition, she holds a blue belt in Shotokan karate. Melissa teaches yoga to all ages-from young children to senior citizens. She truly believes yoga can benefit everyone, no matter your age or fitness level. As a young mother, she stumbled across yoga when she was determined to pursue a healthier lifestyle. "I was overweight, over committed, and overstressed. And I was over feeling that way, " Melissa said. When she first stepped onto the mat, she was unable to even do a modified plank. But, as Melissa practiced regularly, her strength and flexibility grew, while her weight and blood pressure dropped. It wasn't just a physical change, though. "My patience with my kids increased, as well as my ability to appreciate the time I have with them, " Melissa said. "I also realized that taking time to take care of myself ultimately, was a positive thing for my family as well." As a teacher, Melissa's goal is to help each student find the best expression of yoga poses for the body, mind, and spirit-to individualize their practice because copying someone's yoga practice simply doesn't work. She encourages an atmosphere where students can try new things without fear. Yoga has helped Melissa to live in the moment, to slow down and savor the time she has with family and friends. Her motto is, "This breath, this moment...this is my life."

Under a 1000 old year banyan tree in Maui, Shalini feels as timeless, rooted and connected as she does in her classes. She says," although I've practiced Yoga since I was sixteen, only in teaching it, did it blossom for me. I understood most importantly, that when I help others achieve their fullest potential, I radiate from the heart. Simple truths from the Yoga Sutras both illuminate and grace my classes, and every time, I am humbled by students who teach me by their presence." Her style is overwhelmingly student centered. In the nine years she has taught in the Barrington area, while adhering to a traditional Hatha Yoga practice, she has taught fast paced Vinyasa styles, and gentle poses harnessing the body and the mind. The breath and its deep relaxing benefits are at the core of any style. She believes, Stress beats us hollow; relaxation elevates us to the next level. In 2002, Renee took her first yoga class and was hooked. She decided to further her education of yoga and enrolled in the teacher training program at the Lotus Yoga Center. Renee received her 200 hour certification in 2005. She is currently working toward her 500 hour certification at the Himalayan Yoga & Meditation Center (Palatine) and on their Board of Directors. Renee enjoys teaching to all age groups, and is now teaching at studios, park districts, chiropractic offices, schools, and private homes. She feels yoga is a great way for people to explore themselves and the world around them. Renee’s study of Hatha Yoga led her to additional healing modalities. Her certifications are; Craniosacral Technique (2009), Reiki Master Teacher (2008), ThetaHealing Practitioner (2008), Body Balancing (2006), and Reiki Practitioner (2005). She is member of the Himalayan Yoga & Meditation Teachers Association, Yoga Alliance-Registered Yoga Teacher 200 hours, and the Reiki Council.

Lori Saltzman-Yoga Teacher

Lori began her journey fourteen years ago when she attended her first yoga class. She quickly learned the benefits of slowing down and transforming the mind, body, and spirit. In 2005, Lori received her 200 hour RYT and began teaching. She is currently working on her 500 hour RYT and her Para Yoga certification with her teacher Rod Stryker. Lori is also certified in Freedom Style Yoga with Erich Schiffmann, who has been a major inspiration in her life and her practice of yoga. Lori has also been trained by many master teachers such as Seane Corn, Paul Grilley, Anna Forrest, Saul David Raye, and Gabriel Halprin. In addition, Lori is certified in Pre & Post Natal Yoga, pilates, and Quantum Touch. Lori's yoga style is flowing with focus on breath, meditation, and asana together. She uses this style to guide her students towards connecting with their spirit, to remain grounded, and to be able to focus "off the mat". She also keeps her attention on alignment and safety in each pose, while using a therapeutic approach to all her classes. Lori strives to challenge her students at all levels. When Lori isn't teaching yoga, she spends time with her two sons. In addition, Lori is back in school taking courses to complete her degree within healthcare administration.

John was first introduced to yoga in 1998 with a Power Yoga for Beginners DVD. He was hooked and so began his yoga journey. Initially, John was drawn to the physical fitness aspect, but eventually began to appreciate the fluidity of the movement, challenging himself as he progressed. His body and life evolved into a holistic approach and a more peaceful and fulfilling life. Through yoga, John learned how to combine breath with movement, build strength with flexibility, develop a centered and focused mind, better control reactions to events, and to enjoy the beauty of nature. John attend his RYT-200 certification in 2008 through Blue Sun Yoga with Wendy Dahl and completed his E-RYT-200 requirements in 2011. Currently, he is working towards his RYT-500 certification. John utilizes a Hatha and Vinyasa Flow style in his yoga classes, applying the universal principles of alignment and while reflecting the philosophies of Krishnamacharya, nurturing a physical, emotional, and spiritual supportive environment to all.

Sandi Alguire-Trainer

Sandi teaches multiple classes here at Yin Yang including small group reformer classes, pilates fusion & barre. She is also available for private one on one pilates training and specializes in working with dancers. Sandi has been in fitness and dance her whole life. She received a BFA in Dance Performance from the University of Michigan and went on to perform professionally with Jan Erkert & Dancers. Sandi is a certified NIA white belt instructor and currently working towards her STOTT pilates certification. She had studied yoga and meditation for over 25 years and many mind/body healing therapies such as Bind Body Centering, the Lifeline Technique, Energy Medicine (Donna Eden) and Anat Baniel's Feldenkrais Technique. Sandi is currently a student in the Energy Tough School of Advanced Healing studying to become a practitioner of Energy Touch Healing. Sandi is also on staff at the Buehler YMCA in Palatine where she teaches ballet barre workout classes and offers Moving and Healing workshops. She lives in Lake Barrington and in her free time you will find her hiking in nature with her husband and dog, Ernie, or working in their organic vegetable garden.
