Held at California Public Utilities Commission, Golden Gate Training Room (unless otherwise noted on the sign-in sheet), 505 Van Ness Avenue, San Francisco, CA 94612 From the perspective of a well trained Pilates Instructor, working in an office day after day can wreak havoc on a body over time. Our shoulders round forward & our heads slide forward over our neck as we reach towards the computer; our necks and shoulders start to hurt with fatigue and stress; maybe we feel fatigue in our mid back or maybe we start gripping our glutes while we sit (yes our butts!) and develop sciatic nerve pain; maybe instead we grip our hip flexors (quads, psoas) and our lower back hurts. CPUC Employees Lunch Hour Mat Class
A class especially for CPUC Employees. Held at California Public Utilities Commission, Golden Gate Training Room (unless otherwise noted on the sign-in sheet), 505 Van Ness Avenue, San Francisco, CA 94612 From the perspective of a well trained Pilates Instructor, working in an office day after day can wreak havoc on a body over time. Our shoulders round forward & our heads slide forward over our neck as we reach towards the computer; our necks and shoulders start to hurt with fatigue and stress; maybe we feel fatigue in our mid back or maybe we start gripping our glutes while we sit (yes our butts!) and develop sciatic nerve pain; maybe instead we grip our hip flexors (quads, psoas) and our lower back hurts. Pilates is great for getting your body out of those patterns and keeping you healthy and moving. Pilates is strength work that focuses on alignment and posture. This slow, graceful, dance-like form is a moving meditation that gradually and safely improves balance, builds muscle strength and flexibility, strengthens organ functioning, and fosters greater mental clarity and self-awareness. There are 84 movements in the Guang Ping Yang Tai Chi long form. This 10-week class is for students who have already learned the first 12 movements. Classes are 45 minutes long, followed by the beginning class which advanced students are welcome to attend. |

Intermediate & Advanced Tower class is appropriate for those who have completed at least 10 classes each in Mat Pilates, and Tower or Reformer, have had an "ah-hah!" moment about the difference between just doing an exercise and doing a Pilates exercise well, using the right muscles, and have enough core stability (abs, back, shoulder girdle & hips/pelvis) to attempt difficult exercises safely. Tower is a fantastic piece of equipment; You get the challenge of using your body for stability as you do on the mat, and the subtlety of Pilates equipment, like on the Reformer. TRX Curious?Tried TRX & thought it was too hard?This class is a great place to start. TRX is usually quite cardio and involves a full-body workout, including lots of core, squats, plyometrics (jumping & explosive movement) and really great upper-body work. This class goes at a slower pace and covers the basics. The teachers will spend time "workshopping" movements to make sure everyone improves from their level. Don't be fooled tho! It will still be challenging and if you're not a beginner, there will be options to work deep and hard. |
