Gentle Yoga
Hatha Yoga is the "basic root" of the many different styles of Yoga you may hear of. This class is taught by Tom, whom has practiced Kripalu Yoga for many years. Naturally, every class will tend to reflect much of the teacher's personal style, so this Hatha practice is very much based on the style of Kripalu Yoga. This style of Hatha Yoga stems from the teachings of Swami Kripalu and was brought to America in the 1960s by his disciple Yogi Amrit Desai. It emphasizes how you practice as much as how you live your life. Kripalu Yoga promotes a commonsense practice accessible to everyone and encourages you to listen to your body, the ultimate authority. You will find pranayama, asana, and “meditation-in-motion” in Kripalu Yoga classes. |

Yin Yoga & Meditation (All-Level)
Yin Yoga contains the ancient, and some say original, form of asana practice. The sages who pioneered the path of yoga used asanas to strengthen the body, so that they could sit for long periods in contemplative meditation. If you have ever sat for a long time with legs crossed, you know the hips and lower back need to be strong and open. The sensations you felt were deep in the connective tissues and the joints. These are the deep yin tissues of the body, relative to the more superficial yang tissues of muscles and skin. Yin Yoga opens up these deep, dense, rarely touched areas.Recently Yin Yoga has been "re-discovered", and more and more students of yoga are adding this challenging form of practice to their regular sadhana. Years of a dedicated asana practice will make anyone healthier, stronger, and more flexible, but at some point the muscles will have reached their limit of flexibility. Yoga For A Healthy Back (All-Level)
The spine from your head to your tail bone is an essential part of your body’s health, wellness and longevity. Most of our jobs are spent sitting for hours behind a desk or in a car, which contribute to muscle imbalances that add stress to our spine. When our spine is continually stressed, this contributes to pain, stiffness, and chronic conditions such as degenerative joint disease or herniated discs. A healthy spine is one that is flexible, strong, and balanced. Yoga for a Healthy Back uses yoga techniques including asana and pranayama to lengthen and strengthen muscles that support and balance your spine. Classes will be focused on specific spinal sections including Sacrum/Pelvis, Low Back/Core, Mid Back/Shoulders, Neck/Shoulders. Yoga for a Healthy Back is a slower paced class to allow students to understand and experience each pose to the fullest. This class is focused on relieving and/or preventing back pain and/or conditions and is suitable for all levels of experience and mobi |

The classroom is not heated, but the physical practice will naturally build heat in the body. Hatha Flow classes are best suited for students who have practiced Hatha Yoga for at least one month, and do not have any major injuries or limitations. |

Vinyasa Flow (Moderate)
The term vinyāsa refers to the alignment of movement and breath, a method which turns static asanas into a dynamic flow. The length of one inhale or one exhale dictates the length of time spent transitioning between asanas. Asanas are then held for a predefined number of breaths. In effect, attention is placed on the breath and the journey between the asanas rather than solely on achieving perfect body alignment in an asana, as is emphasized in Hatha yoga. The term vinyasa also refers to a specific series of movements that are frequently done between each asana in a series. This viṅyāsa 'flow' is a variant of Sūrya namaskāra, the Sun Salutation, and is used in other styles of yoga beside Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga. A standard vinyāsa consists (for example) of the flow from caturaṅga, or plank, to caturaṅga daṇḍāsana, or low plank, to ūrdhva mukha śvānāsana or upward-facing dog, to Adho Mukha Svanasana, or downward-facing dog.The breathing style used in Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga is |

The heart of Yoga is meditation. Come to this class to learn more about the art and practice of meditation. There are many clinical studies that reveal the benefits of meditation that include: reduced stress, improved memory and ability to focus, improved ability to learn, improved sleep, improved mood, improved immunity, mental clarity, decrease in blood pressure and a general sense of well-being. One study linked meditation to positive changes in the brain tissue measured with mri scans before and after an eight week period. “After eight weeks, MRI scans showed significant gray matter density growth in areas of the brain involved in learning and memory, empathy and compassion, sense of self and emotional regulation, when compared with a control group.” Washington Post 2/14/11This class includes an Asana (postures) portion to prepare the body for meditation which can be seen in many of the texts of yoga as the primary purpose of yoga postures. Yoga Nidra (Yogic Sleep)
The closest translation of the word Nidra is sleep, and the word Yoga means union or connection. In this approach the union of Yoga is realized experientially as the continuity of being that unfolds when the mind is silent and there is no '"doer". The truth of this is glimpsed in the practice of Yoga Nidra, and it is lived knowingly in daily life as the practice of Nidra Yoga. This Yoga approach is paradoxical as it uses the process of deep sleep to wake up to your true nature and cultivates a way of being that flowers in as everyday life. It is beyond the measure of the thinking mind as it is "knowing as being" that embraces functioning according to the laws of natural order – for example: thoughts and memories associated with name and form are used functionally, yet "knowing as being" means that the suffering, limitation, and separation of identification, via the thinking mind, is absent.Note:There is a 45-minute "Yoga Nidra" class that begi |
