First off, this spa was 1 of 16 places in the Houston market that accept the SpaFinder gift cards. The spa was clean and nicely decorated. It even has a little boutique with clothes and shoes. I went there for a deep tissue massage. I was very pleased with my experience. What really stood out for me was that the staff stayed over an extra half hour after closing to give me a 1 1/2 hour massage. I didn't partake in their other services but noticed they also had a nail salon area. I shall return the next time I'm in that area.

I went to Hawaiian Retreat for a deep tissue massage, and for a full spa manicure and pedicure. The massage was one of the best I've had. The masseuse asked specific questions about what I was really looking for in a massage, and I appreciated this. She proceeded to give me the exact kind of massage I wanted. However, my manicure and pedicure were horrible. The employee seemed to be rushing through in an effort to get home. She did not buff my nails correctly or have any warmth to her personality at all.I did love the atmosphere of this spa, and the owner was on site, and very solicitous. On the other hand, I was slightly concerned that I was the only guest there. In conclusion, I would most definitely go back to Hawaiian Retreat for a massage, but never for a manicure or pedicure. They seemed to be quite a new establishment, and I hope they do well!

I was scheduled for a facial. The place was not welcoming or warm, just looked like a place where you would get a manicure or pedicure, not a spa. The receptionist did not greet me and the person giving me the facial never introduced herself. I was extremely uncomfortable the entire time I was there. The place did not appear to be clean or kept up. I could hardly wait to leave. Will not be returning.

While the receptionist was very nice- the experience was frankly random at best. We arrived and the spa looked nothing like the photo( obviously just clip art), We were never welcomed and the receptionist who appeared to be speaking with the owner or manager was very unprofessional, albeit nice. After clearly being thrown for a loop when I asked if the schedule permitting changing the massages from 60 minutes to 90; she and the other woman talked and whispered but never answered our question with a simple yes or no. All the while we had to watch a screaming toddler run through the front area- nothing against toddlers but tonkas are not my idea of relaxing day spa environment. The receptionist walked back and we assumed we should follow, but again were never invited back or shown around. After filling out our massage quesstionaires one woman came to get me and directed my to a sindle bathroom and told me to change into the robe provided, lockers are around the corner . She then proceeded to knock on the door and tell me I could not use that robe she had another- as I stood in my skivvies and asked if it really mattered she said yes.Changing in the bathroom as opposed to a proper changing area is one thing, a bathroom with a dirty floor and toilet is quite another.I went back to the "sitting area" while they then told my mother she coul dnow use the bathroom.I finally asked for a glass of water as we sat their for nearly ten minutes and the receptionist came back out of what looked like a supply closet with a dixie cup of water.Long story short- the massage therapist was very good. The facialist was simply OK.I personally hate paying any amount of money for somebody to simply slap a mask on and basically leave me in the room with shreds of cotton balls ( yes not even the traditional cotton pads) on my eyes. I do not really need to pay anybody for a nap.I was horrified to findout that my mother was told that she should add to her facial because I had only paid for a 35 dollar facial. To start- that is incorrect meven if that is more the amount the facials were worth. But to embarrass my mother and basically tell her your gift is the cheap one you should add something is far different that what I requested. I requested they tell her that she could have whatever she wanted and then describe the treatments.I go to spas often, both neighborhood moderately priced and luxury spas. Here are some very simply and inexpensive things they can do to make this a great experience.Welcome people " Welcome to the Hawaaiin day spa; you are here for the facial and massage correct?. Let me show you around. here is where you will change, here is a locker for you, please relax in the sitting area and yuor technition will great you. may I offer you a glass of water"Get rid of the plastic cus, dirty rugs, torn blankets and shredded towel wraps ( that the facialist handed meto put on).Buy a couple lemons limes or cucumbers for your water, and maybe invest in a bowl of fruitClose the door to the laundry room- next to the toddler the sound of the washer and dryer was equally un spa like.Put a curtain over the supply closet- not the best viewPut some pillows on the sofaAsk the nail techs to shut up instead of standing beside the "relaxation area " fightingCLEAN the spa, including toilets, silk flowers rugs etc. Actually- ditch the silk plants and buy something, anything freshAdd some scented candlesHave your staff wear some kind of profesisonal attire- tshirts and flip flops really do not convey anything other than a sloppy attitude. Matching shirts, smocks or scrubs would all have been an improvementGive people an itemized bill- I was faced with someone struggling with the machine and then handing me nothing more than the visa slip- i still have no Idea if what I was chared matches what I requested.Again the massuse was great- but it was very hard to enjoy the experience given all of the other, easily rectifiable detractorsAnd if you have to have workman in the spa- schedule it after hours. Having them rip out the old pedicure chairs and put in new ones while you sat next to them clutching your robe- not so nice. Seeing that under the chainrs there was a decades worth of old dirty cotton balls- disgusting. We brougth our swim suits to enjoy the sauna and wet room described- it was one thing that we were noever offered these services when we came in, it was another to see that these were just seperate bathrooms with a tub- not the area described in their postingThe assumption is simply that it must be new ownership- again such small changes would have made for such a nice experience. I based my spa selection on the previous reviews and was so very disappointed. It was not the birthday present that I had hoped for my mother, and she will never have another 65th birthday

I went there for a stone massage. The massage therapist was unaware that I was getting a stone massage but she quickly switched gears and gave me a wonderfully relaxing massage! Everyone was soo nice got me in at my appointment time. The entire place was spotless! It was all just gorgeous! Definitely going to make another appointment!
