Ashtanga

The word Ashtanga means eight limbs. The Yoga Sutras of Patanjali explain a system of yoga with eight limbs. This is considered to be an authoritative text, and all forms of yoga taught in the west today refer back to it in one way or another. This method of yoga involves synchronizing the breath with a progressive series of postures—a process producing intense internal heat and a profuse, purifying sweat that detoxifies muscles and organs. The result is improved circulation, a light and strong body, and a calm mind.
