About Montage Laguna Beach

Located on a stunningly beautiful bluff overlooking Laguna Beach and the Pacific Ocean, Montage Laguna Beach opened in early 2003. The resort quickly distinguished itself for its ultra-luxurious amenities and its homage to the art of California. Spa Montage offers many ocean-themed treatments, as well as a very comprehensive menu of fitness classes. Montage's special program, Surrender Retreats, offered four to five times a year, combines the exercise and wellness components available at most destination spas with the extensive and distinctive pampering treatments for which resort spas are frequently renowned.

The 21-treatment-room spa takes advantage of its seaside setting with indoor/outdoor treatment rooms. Their floor-to-ceiling windows, through which warm breezes waft, have breathtaking views of the Pacific and Laguna Beach. Laguna Beach Kur, one of its signature treatments, is based on traditional European kurs but uses botanicals indigenous to California.

The spa strongly encourages its guests to 'Just let go.' During the three-day Surrender Retreats, guests are not simply handed a spa menu. Instead, they are given comprehensive fitness, lifestyle, and wellness assessments, and a therapist and trainer design a personalized program to meet their needs and goals. Spa Montage also offers a Surrender Treatment, that can be booked at any time during the year. It too begins with a consultation with a therapist followed by treatments tailored to the individual; they may range from two hours to an entire day.

Spa Montage also has a strong fitness component. Its facilities include the Mind / Body Movement Studio, with floor-to-ceiling open-air windows and panoramic views of the Pacific Ocean; an expansive fitness room, with cardiovascular equipment complemented by individual media and music centers; and a Life Fitness strength training and free weight area. A wide range of individual and group classes are offered, including:

    • Indoor yoga cycling (the spiritual and stretching techniques of yoga combined with calorie-burning indoor cycling)
    • Thalassic beach walks (brisk barefoot walking in the ocean and sand plus meditation at the ocean's edge)
    • Mat Pilates
    • Dance classes
    • Yoga
    • Tai chi
    • Qi Gong
    • Beach Boot Camp, a strenuous outdoor class that involves springs, pushups, stair climbing, and a hardcore ab workout

    Rooms & Dining

The 225 spacious suites and guest rooms range in size from 500 to 2,800 square feet and feature sweeping views of the ocean. Each is decorated in turn-of-the century style with dark wood furnishings, crown moldings, and original works from Early California artists. The luxurious touches include 100-percent cotton, Irish-woven towels, feather-top beds with 400-thread-count bed linens, and goose-down pillows. The rooms also offer flat-screen televisions with DVD players and Internet access. Guests who prefer more private accommodations may select one of the 37 beach bungalow-style rooms, located near the croquet lawn.

Studio, the resort's signature restaurant, serves modern, French style cuisine with California influences in a light and airy atmosphere. The restaurant has 280-degree views and large open-air windows fronting on the Pacific Ocean. Two custom-built wine vaults with more than 2,000 bottles flank the bar, and there are wine and cheese sommeliers on staff. A private room with a rustic stone fireplace is available for groups of 12 or more.

Other dining options include The Loft, which offers a more casual environment with indoor and outdoor seating, and Mosaic, a poolside bar and grille that serves salads, grilled sandwiches, seafood, and healthy choices from the spa menu. In-room dining is available 24 hours a day.

    Activities

Ocean lovers have a choice of four white-sand beaches, a manicured park overlooking the Pacific, and rocky points and marine tide pools, as well as activities that include snorkeling, kayaking, surfing, and beach volleyball. A marine biologist, marine docents, and beach butlers are on staff to guide you through the rich local ecosystem.

You can also make a splash at the resort's three pools. One is infinity-edged and located next to the ocean, another is a lap pool for serious swimmers, and the third is for children.

Art is strongly emphasized at Montage. The property has a permanent collection that comprises pieces from the Early California Art and Crafts movement, including works by plein air artists William Morris, Alfred Mitchell, William Wendt, Edgar Payne, and Jean Mannheim. Paintbox is a special program in which children can learn about arts and crafts, and an onsite gallery features the work of guest artists.

Guests can also enjoy the croquet lawn or visit a nearby golf course. Business travelers can take advantage of the more than 20,000 square feet of indoor and outdoor meeting space, which includes two ballrooms and two lawns, as well as rooms for smaller gatherings.

My friend and I decided to do the "Day of Indulgence" and we had an absolute blast! We spent the entire day lounging by the pool, admiring the ocean view, had wonderful drinks and food, had great massage, and to end with a relaxing yoga class. This is a wonderful place to escape from work and to be in paradise =)

We just returned from a full day of enjoying this fine resort although intially we planned a few hours for a couples massage to rejuvinate and to celebrate a major BD for me. We just could not leave the place it was just that AMAZING. As a worldwide spa junkie & 30 years living near the Ojai Valley Inn... I have been to the best and consider myself a critic of sorts from boutique establishments to resort experiences in at least 10 countries. This has moved right to the top of my A++ list and we definately will be returning for more of the LOVE. The spa complex is top notch from stem to stern, the pools have a view to die for, the services are exemplary, the food is wellness kitchen level and more. Just give yourself the whole day so you can bask in every last morsel this spa has to offer. Results: Relaxed, Rejuvinated and SOLD on the place.

The resort is absolutely beautiful! We stayed for three nights and I had two spa treatments. I had a massage and was clear that I wanted someone that could apply deeper pressure. It ended up being the best massage I have had. He also spent time giving me tips on stretches and future treatments that could help my lower back pain. I feel like I left about 2 inches taller and completely relaxed! The pool is beautiful and most rooms have a great view of the ocean. There is also a place to walk along the beach or take a swim.

This has become a favorite spa! Everything is exquisite. The spa services rival any of the top spas - the surrender treatment is fabulous and well worth the price. Plan to leave yourself some time just to relax in the lounge and take a steam/ plunge/ Jacuzzi. The accommodations are truly luxurious - very understated and plush - with gorgeous views of the spectacular coastline. Their pillows and featherbed are custom made and I bought several for home, I loved them so much! The service is impeccable and the food is outstanding. The Studio is very expensive, but wonderful for a special meal. The meals in The Loft are delicious, as well. And, Laguna Beach is a charming community to explore the shops, art galleries and restaurants.
