YogaDance

YogaDance is a playful exploration of movement in the body. It fuses two ancient forms of movement – yoga and dance – to create a fluid, graceful and liberating connection between mind and body. The class starts with centering and relaxing breath work. Specific yoga poses help warm up the entire body and then the journey of movement begins. Different styles of music are played to evoke a variety of experiences. Some guided instruction is given for those who crave traditional dance technique, but plenty of time is dedicated to the celebration of organic movement. The class is gently brought together to slow down and integrate the experience. Finally, a deep relaxation and meditation ends the class. No prior experience is necessary and people of all ages, shapes and sizes are welcome. YogaDance uses the joy of movement to build strength, flexibility and balance while creating a harmonious connection with spirit.

Yin Yoga

"Yin Yoga" is a natural complement to the more active and vigorous ("Yang") style of asana practice, which works more on the muscular and aerobic level. Yin Yoga is done primarily with floor stretches and postures (seated / lying down) held for longer periods of time (3 -5 minutes), sometimes with the aid of props. This form of yoga targets the deeper connective tissues in the body, which can only be adequately stretched when held mindfully and relaxed into for longer durations. This is a wonderful practice for not only openning up and expanding awareness of the physical body, though also for experiencing deep levels of relaxation, openning up the breath and 'energy body', and moving deeper into the meditative stillness within.

Introduction to the Fundamentals of Meditation

Meditation is a process that involves making time on a daily basis to cultivate inner quiet by consistently being present in our breath. When we pay attention to the breath, we feel connected. A quality of expansion occurs that is beyond the domain of the mind’s fluctuation. Finding ourselves in that expanded space of the present moment is what meditation is all about. In this workshop we will explore simple techniques to develop a meditation practice. We will learn to observe our mind by consistently being present with our breath. We will learn how to focus the mind through the mechanism of breathing. As our focus elevates, we enter the stage of Dharana or concentration. According to the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali, Dharana is a series of techniques that prepares the practitioner for meditation. After a sustained period of concentration the mind enters a state of steadiness and presence that we call meditation or Dhyana.
