Maharishi Ayurveda offers treatment options based on the ancient Indian system of medicine. Ayurvedic treatments are designed to restore balance to the energies that govern body function. Detoxification and purification are the keys to recovery from disease and to optimal health, according to the Ayurvedic healing philosophy. The term 'Maharishi Ayurveda' refers to a specific discipline that aims to revive the knowledge and techniques that existed five thousand years ago in India, before the intervention of foreign influences.
To that end, Maharishi Ayurveda provides Panchakarma, a comprehensive treatment program aimed at strengthening the body and promoting effective healing. Panchakarma normally lasts ten, 14, or 21 days and is customized to each patient following a pulse diagnosis performed by a vaidya (Ayurvedic doctor) who trained in India. Panchakarma treatments include synchronized tandem full-body massages, herbal oil application, dry and damp heat treatments, and, as a final step in the detoxification process, herbal enemas. A key aspect of treatment is the spa cuisine prepared and served at the clinic's restaurant by an Ayurvedic chef.
Among the more than 50 illnesses that have responded favorably to treatment at Maharishi Ayurveda are hypertension, bronchitis, cardiovascular disorders, skin disorders, and chronic migraine. In addition to Panchakarma, Maharishi Ayurveda offers activities and programs such as lifestyle consultations with Ayurvedic doctors, group yoga practice, cooking classes, music therapy, transcendental meditation, health seminars, and in-house classical music performances.
Guests of the clinic may also enjoy the hotel's indoor thermal swimming pool and saunas, as well as mineral spring water renowned for its healing properties for the last 2,000 years. Bad Ems offers a rich selection of recreational activities, including golf, sightseeing, and nature walks.
The clinic sells herbal supplements, teas, spices, cosmetics, and aromatherapy products from the vaidya-approved Maharishi Technology Corporation brand. In addition to prescribing supplements for home use, physicians are available to follow up with guests after they depart.
