  On 40 acres, the all-inclusive Galley Bay Resort & Spa is an oceanfront oasis located on the south east coast of Antigua that fosters leisure, romance and indulgence. While the vast Caribbean Sea is the backdrop for many of the resort’s recreational activities, including water sports such as snorkeling and scuba diving, the surrounding lush greenery, lagoon and natural bird sanctuary provide an intimate beach-hideaway feel. At Indulge Spa, guests have their selection among facial and body treatments, which can be taken in-room or on one of three alfresco massage decks; the spa’s rustically elegant vibe stems from both its open-air setting and its Gauguin-style exteriors that resemble the resort’s cottage accommodations. Additional rooms and suites are designed in island- or Tahitian style, and three restaurants entice guests’ appetites with local fare.

Not far from a tranquil lagoon, surrounded by a natural bird sanctuary, lies Indulge Spa, a 3,500-square-foot, multi-level facility with an airy, lighthearted atmosphere. Rattan and wicker furnishings are flawlessly accented by gold, brown and green hues, and natural woods provide an elegant ambience. There are three treatment areas, two of them open-air “pods” that juxtapose rough-hewn exteriors with delicate white curtains. Guests can also reserve treatments in the comfort of their rooms.

Keeping in tune with the resort’s philosophy of catering to couples, several treatments allow spa-goers to indulge side-by-side. These include the Indulge Coconut Cocoon, which begins with a grated coconut body scrub and concludes with a coconut milk wrap and massage. Decadent facials and body therapies using Pevonia Botanica products are also available.

Off property, the capital city of Antigua, St. John’s, specializes in catering to all types of visitors: Cultural enthusiasts will enjoy landmarks like the Museum of Antigua and Barbuda, along with the English Harbour, the island’s historic district that once served as the headquarters of the Leeward Islands fleet. Of the 94 guest rooms, 13 are secluded Tahitian-designed cottages appointed with private plunge pools and situated amidst verdant foliage near the resort’s lagoon. Guests can also opt for beachfront accommodations: Rooms reflect casual Caribbean style, with rattan furniture and local artwork, while elegant suites are fashioned in tropical colors, offset by dark acacia wood furnishings. Amenities include wireless Internet access, flat-screen TVs, iPod alarms and DVD players.

The all-inclusive Galley Bay has three alfresco restaurants, each one offering guests a distinct culinary experience. The Sea Grape is a vibrant venue with a weekly Caribbean barbecue and live steel-drum band, while the Gauguin, with its candlelit, oceanfront cabana setting, caters to honeymooners and romantics. The beachside Ismay’s Restaurant & Bar showcases regional specialties such as West Indian “roti” and the traditional Rastafarian “ital” dish. In addition, a portion-controlled spa menu is available at the restaurants upon request.
