I got my hair cut and a massage here and while the actual services were great, the staff was rude and snobby. I found it very hard to relax, but my hair looked great!

Mario's Spa in Aurora worst Spa experience ever!By HelenH | February 12, 2011

The front desk person was rude and we were told that we could not use our spa dollars/gift certificates for spa specials. Our "Girlfriends Special" advertised a heat treatment, body scrub and 1/2 hour massage along with a Lobster/steak lunch. When arriving, we were told that we could not order lobster or steak due to it was out of season. Robes were short and slippers provided were cheap dollar store flip flops. Spa rooms and waiting rooms were cold. I was left in a waiting room for 20-30 minutes between treatments, cold & watching a looped video of employees at previous employee functions. Heat treatment "steam room" was provided after massage, and body scrub. Very disappointed with the whole experience. Would never recommend this spa.

Better than expected.By BrandeeW | November 7, 2010

With all the less than positive reviews I read about this spa, my expectations of it were quite low.
However, my experience seems to differ from the others. The good: The food was AMAZING. The cabin restaurant was very rustic with pleasant scenery and live piano. Service [from receptionist, masseuses, and waitress] was good. Massage room clean and very comfortable. Jacuzzi also was clean and had a fireplace and waterfall. Complimentary wine, champagne, and tea while waiting in the reception area was a perk.
The bad: The half hour massage did not last a full half hour, but apparently this is true with any spa after reading about other spas on-line. The carpet in the womens locker room was in need of replacing and sweeping, but I only spent a brief amount of time there so it didn't take away from my experience. Dinner was included in our package which was $200 and we tipped $40 (20%) but the server told us our tip was not included with dinner though the receptionist said it was. I'm not sure if she was confused or expected an additional tip, but we didn't leave another as we certainly didn't leave $40 just for our masseuses [as the jacuzzi part was unattended].

DisappointmentBy April S | August 7, 2010

After a sudden schedule change and in much need of relaxation I booked a one night package w/facial, massage and complimentary dinner and breakfast. The hotel room was dark, stale, and with w/a horribly hard bed. A fuzzy robe and slippers were supposed to be included but I had to ask for both (and the "slippers" turned out to be flip flops that were too small to wear). After reading the website I expected a variety of light and healthy meal options. The dinner menu was heavy Italian. Thankfully the staff easily substituted in a vegetarian non-package dinner instead of the required package meals. There was live piano music performing but the pianist was so bad that I ate quickly just to get away from the keyboard banging. The breakfast was disgusting. I was told my breakfast "option" was only a muffin (not much of a "continental breakfast" imho). As if that weren't bad enough, I received a cold, stale danish w/a side of moldy fresh fruit. There was also a large bug on the table. Thank goodness I had brought a granola bar in my purse! Next were the treatments and at this point I was in serious need of some relaxation. During the facial the esthetician carelessly let the tool cords bang into my face and the treatment lotions drip into my eye (even after I commented several times. By the end my eye was burning). The massage room was very small, the masseuse large, and several times her robust belly was pushing on my head as she worked down my back. Also the speaker system music was fast paced and far from soothing. The only good part of the whole package was the 15min whirl pool soak in the private and quiet basement. Then I was quickly rushed out.
I booked this stay at the last minuett. I wish that I had had the time to read the other reviews b/c I agree w/the other comments. I'm never going there again.

I visited the salon not once, but twice both using gift certificates. On the first visit (in the middle of a hot july) and the air conditioning wasn't working-why they didn't call the customers to allow us to reschedule, I'll never know (they did admit that the a/c went out the nite before). I had a massage scheduled and during the massage, the massuse was dripping with sweat-how disgusting!
At the 2nd and MY LAST VISIT, there was no cold water..

I scheduled a pedicure after receiving a gift certificate from my sister.
When I showed up, they claimed the certificate had expired but they could not determine when is was purchased.
I explained that it could not have been over 2 years old -- and even if it was, the certificate, or some portion of it, should be honored The manager was rude, uninformed and could have cared less. I have received other gift certificates from Mario's and WILL NEVER AGAIN USE THEIR SERVICES OR THEIR RESTAURANT IN AURORA. I would be embarrassed to work for a company that has such rude employees and poor policies. If the gift card expires -- they should clearly mark the DATE OF EXPIRATION ON THE CARD.
Mario's use to be a nice experience -- now I can see from other comments that this is one spa you should NEVER visit.

My girlfriend and I both had pedicures and after wards we both felt that over-all the service & quality of Mario's is definitely declining. We've had better pedicures at other local spas that didn't charge nearly as much with massage chairs and a better over all pedicure. I think the place could use a remodel and see what their competition is offering.

Marios Spa-Bad experienceBy KristenC | January 7, 2010

I also had a horrible experience at Mario's. I had a very expensive spa package, and nothing to show for it. I had the worst massage of my life, a nail infection, had my hair washed in cold water, because they ran out of hot water. Then, the stylist would not listen to me when I said I had to have my hair flat ironed. She used only a blowdryer, stating she knew how to style hair. I was left with a frizzy mess. The person who did my make-up clearly didn't know what she was doing either. She gave me raccoon eyes. Lunch was a tiny portion of nothing. I was supposed to have a day a beauty, and then an evening out with my husband. We had to cancel our plans because I looked horrible. I called to complain after I developed my nail infection. Cold, mean managing staff at Mario's. Absolutely no sympathy. I would never recommend anyone waste their money at Mario's Spa.

Worst massage everBy ohiospalover | January 3, 2007

I should have listened to the other reviewier regarding this spa. I have never been more unsatisfied with a massage. I have been getting massages 4-5 times per year for the past 6-7 years, and this was definitely the worst. My therapist didn't listen to me when I pointed out my problem areas, nor when I asked for less pressure to be applied (not to mention I requested a female therapist, yet was given a male therapist). It's the only time I've wanted to ask if the massage could just end early. Not only the bad service experience, but a promotion was running at the time that was extremely misleading, which resulted in me being charged much more for the service than their website advertised. I contacted the company's customer service headquarters regarding both issues over 6 weeks ago, and have yet to hear anything in reply. I will never visit this salon for any service in the future.

Poor Customer CareBy Spa Addict | May 21, 2006

During a spa pedicure, I was cut. Not a big deal until my nail became infected. I called the spa just to inform them that perhaps their tools weren't properly cleaned. I did not want anything in return... but I just thought they should know. They denied any responsibility. Without even listening to me, the manger became very defensive. I explained that they were the only Spa I have ever been to. She hung up on me. Needless to say, after having my nail removed, and living with a missing toenail, I have never gone back. I just feel that if I am paying good money to be pampered, that the customer care should be above average. The staff is not very friendly. It is a little stuffy and cold.
