  Sanoviv Medical Institute, a health and wellbeing retreat in Rosarito, Mexico, an hour from San Diego, fuses diverse medical programming against a serene beachfront landscape. The institute is dedicated to providing guests with an all-encompassing, personalized stay, assigning each to a devoted team of health professionals, ranging from nutritionists, a kinesiologist/chiropractor, psychologist, fitness expert, dentist and physicians, that administers a series of diagnostic tests, assesses and suggests comprehensive programs and treatments aimed at specific health concerns and individual needs. Sanoviv, meaning “healthy living” in Spanish, completes the experience with an all-organic menu designed to support detoxification and restoration.

The spa at Sanoviv fosters an airy, light design and a soft color palette. The spa enchants guests with its playful, organic vibe: Hydrotherapy jetted tubs overlook the ocean and treatments celebrate all-natural scrubs, salts and oils handmade on site. Other amenities in the 4,000-square-foot facility include an infrared sauna, separate men’s and women’s locker rooms with showers and ten treatment rooms, though the entire five-acre campus is utilized for fitness, trainings and classes.

Sanoviv’s medical doctors prescribe guests with therapeutic, detoxing treatments designed to accommodate individual health needs and complement services with energy medicine. Each guest's care is managed by an MD who he/she meets with daily; each on-staff doctor sees no more than six guests weekly, ensuring an intensely personalized experience. Spa-goers can also unwind with services like the signature Sanoviv Fango Body Wrap, energy medicine, Vitamin C and acuscope myopulse therapies, ozone insulfflation, time in the hydrotherapy tub and infrared sauna, dips in the cold plunges, a Vichy shower and a body wrap of warm ocean mud.

All 47 guest accommodations are studio or two-bedroom suites appointed with oceanfront balconies and comfortable, simply designed sitting areas. Marble bathrooms come complete with non-toxic USANA bath and body products and private enema tables. All electrical cords and outlets are shielded to reduce exposure to electromagnetic fields, and each room has a chi massage and a rebounder for guests' use.

A communal vibe ensues in the main dining room, where Sanoviv guests enjoy family-style meals prepared with many ingredients sourced from the property’s garden. A strict non processed-foods rule applies; dishes instead emphasize organic, portion-controlled fare that is lactose-, soy- and gluten-free. Each guest’s menu is personalized for his or her optimal wellbeing with the help of Sanoviv’s team of nutritionists.

Guests will enjoy Sanoviv’s rich combination of high-impact and low-energy activities. Mornings begin with meditation and energy medicine class, and numerous exercise classes – stretching, yoga, salsa dance, water fitness, rebounding and tai chi, among them – are available daily at the oceanfront fitness center. Every guest will also partake in one-on-one fitness consultations and guided sessions with a personal trainer.

When it’s time to refresh, five saltwater swimming pools await, varying from a lap pool, water fitness pool and three thalassotherapy pools. Cold plunges can be found outside, as well as the men’s and women’s sauna areas. Come evening, guests settle in and listen to an array of health lectures, given by Sanoviv experts and visiting health professionals from around the globe; motivational movies can also be viewed in the education center. There are also juicing classes, held weekdays after lunch.

The surrounding region is also filled with exciting pursuits for guests to delight in during their downtime, including Fox Studios Baja, where Titanic was filmed. The Valle de Guadalupe wine country is just 30 minutes away, while Rosarito Beach is within 10 minutes.
