About Potosa Spa at Hotel Julien Dubuque
History and splendor surround the Hotel Julien Dubuque, which has views of the Port of Dubuque and Mississippi River. The two-acre historic hotel, located on Main Street in Dubuque’s downtown district, within walking distance of the riverfront, has a storied past that includes visitors like Abraham Lincoln and Mark Twain, and its present includes a 2009 reopening following a $30-million renovation. The on-site Potosa Spa pays tribute to the hotel and Dubuque’s surrounding heritage with signature treatments inspired by the region; beauty services are performed in the salon. There is also a 1,600-square-foot fitness center with an indoor swimming pool and whirlpool.
Hotel Julien’s Riverboat Lounge is a stylish social spot for spirits, sipped indoors or on the terrace, and the spacious lobby offers its own sense of grandeur, with crown molding, arched windows, a romantic fireplace, inviting seating areas, and a majestic staircase that leads to the second-floor atrium.
Location
Services
Located in the historic Hotel Julien Dubuque, the 3,000-square-foot Potosa Spa is an intimate space that looks to the past as its inspiration. The spa takes its name from the chief’s daughter of the Fox Native American tribe that formerly inhabited the region, and the spa menu showcases a full complement of exclusive services based upon the Native American Medicine Wheel. Treatments are inspired by nature’s elements—earth, fire, water, and wind—and include the Four Elements Massage; the signature ritual begins with a footbath and concludes with a massage using melted aromatherapy candle oil, warm stones, and a feather fan. A soothing waterfall and windpipe music in the boutique spa’s entryway immediately put guests at ease upon arrival. The calm vibe continues to the relaxation room, where spa-goers unwind on wave-style lounge chairs or sit beside the fireplace as they wait for therapists to guide them to one of the five treatment rooms.
Vegan and organic products used include Pevonia, Pureology, and Erbaviva.
