About The Shizen Spa at Deerhurst Resort
Located on 760 acres, the lakefront Deerhurst Resort in eastern Canada’s Muskoka region, two-and-a-half hours from Toronto, celebrates more than 115 years of history, including hosting the 2010 G8 Summit. The on-site spa, Shizen, meaning nature in Japanese, offers a blend of global and local rituals in a lovely, earthy setting created with wood and stone elements, and the resort’s abundance of outdoor activities showcases the area’s ever-changing seasons. The 400-room resort has two championship golf courses, and an ample number of restaurants provide guests a taste of the local seasonal flavors. Come select evenings, families will enjoy Deerhurst’s live Decades Show, Canada’s longest-running musical variety stage production.

To heighten guests’ relaxation, all Shizen Spa treatments begin with a SCENTSory Journey, inspired by nature and made from pure Muskoka ingredients. Shizen dedicates itself to offering spa-goers a tailored experience, indulging guests with a complete menu of global and local rituals that utilize the luxury Pevonia brand; customized massage, facial and body therapies last 50, 80 or 110 minutes. Spa-goers can also benefit from signature treatments like the Muskoka Warm Stone Massage, celebrity-endorsed Intraceuticals Oxygen Infusion facials or the Muskoka Scrub and Wrap Combo. A full menu of aesthetic services, including nailcare, waxing and paraffin dips, rounds out the Shizen Spa experience.
The 2,500-square-foot spa creates a magical setting inspired by the relaxed Muskoka lifestyle, with sophisticated interiors enhanced by dark wood, natural stone and woodland hues. There are seven treatment rooms, along with three manicure and five pedicure stations.

Workouts are fun and easy at the fully equipped fitness center, and both exercise fans and relaxation seekers alike can enjoy swimming at the indoor pool, or three summertime outdoor pools. Nature lovers have kilometres of shaded routes to hike, bike and horseback ride deep into the highlands, and a bevy of water sports await on Peninsula Lake, including canoeing, fishing, kayaking and waterskiing. The winter season attracts visitors to Muskoka for snowtime fun ranging from skiing and snowboarding, to snowmobiling and dog-sledding.
A major draw is Deerhurst’s golf academy and its two 18-hole championship golf courses—the championship quality Deerhurst Highlands challenges golfers of all skill levels, while the Deerhurst Lakeside is considered the more family-friendly course. Numerous tennis courts, paintball jaunts and treetop trekking adventures (zip lining, Tarzan ropes, climbing nets, etc.) provide even more invigorating ways to spend the day.

Rooms & Dining
A restful stay at Deerhurst Resort is made easy with classically designed guest rooms and condo suites. The majority of hotel rooms are housed in the Main Pavilion, just a 10-minute walk from the lake, or guests can reserve spacious Lakeside rooms close to the beach. Newly renovated Junior One-Bedroom Suites in the Summit Lodges feature all the comforts of home, including a kitchenette, dishwasher and living room with fireplace. Additional one-, two- and three-bedroom condos, spaced throughout the resort, have full kitchens, dining and living areas, fireplaces and bathrooms with jetted tubs.
A highlight of Deerhurst Resort is Eclipse, an elegant “Savour Muskoka” restaurant that celebrates local food and drink from Muskoka and area. Diners also enjoy Maple, an inviting yet laidback grill that highlights a menu of flatbread-style pizzas, salads and sandwiches, while the Lobby Bar beckons for light snacks and appetizers. During the summer, Steamers serves traditional steakhouse dishes with modern flair, and light bites are served alfresco at the Pool Deck Grill.
