About Sense Spa at The Carlyle, A Rosewood Hotel
Located on Manhattan’s Upper East Side, one block from Central Park, along the prominent Museum Mile, is Sense Spa at The Carlyle, A Rosewood Hotel. The landmark hotel’s guest list reads like a “who’s who” of political and royal dignitaries and entertainers, who are drawn to the property for its Art Deco design esthetic, including a black-and-white marbled lobby, and its famed cabaret venue, Café Carlyle, where iconic acts such as Elaine Stritch and Judy Collins have performed. At the urban Sense Spa, guests are in for a personalized escape, where body and mind are indulged through customized, high-tech treatments and an environment of understated elegance evocative of a residence rather than a spa; guests can also opt for treatments in the comfort of their own hotel room.
Location
Services
Guests are immediately immersed in the era of 1940s Hollywood glamour at Sense Spa at the historic Carlyle hotel. The hotel’s legendary Art Deco esthetic is echoed in its sophisticated spa design, which begins with a barrel-vaulted, platinum mosaic-tiled stairway and concludes with black and grey tones and deep charcoal faux leather floors offset by white Carrara marble and glittering English chandeliers. Still-life photographs by Kenro Izu adorns the walls.
The 3,000-square-foot spa is designed to perfect the art of escape, cultivating an intimate setting with four treatment rooms, along with a relaxation room laden with velvet sofas and imported-English nickel fixtures. Beauty services are taken in the Yves Durif salon; as well, a fitness center is equipped with Technogym equipment.
Partnering with Sisley, Sense Spa offers personalized services, including the Sense Signature Massage, a fusion of Swedish and deep-tissue techniques. A Kohler DTV spa shower that entwines water, sound, light and steam is complimentary with all body therapies.

Carlyle guests who wish to explore New York City’s cultural, shopping and entertaining hotspots, including Central Park, are just steps away. Upscale boutiques of Madison Avenue, as well as high-end art and antique galleries, are minutes from the hotel, as is Fifth Avenue’s Museum Mile, comprising such institutions as the Whitney Museum of American Art, the Frick Collection, the Metropolitan Museum of Art and Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, from 82nd to 105th Streets. Rooms & Dining
Pied-à-terre-type guest interiors have been in the hands of prestigious designers like Dorothy Draper, Mark Hampton, Thierry Despont and Alexandra Champalimaud. Individually designed rooms and suites feature the hotel’s original hardwood floors, as well as luxurious fabrics, original Audubon prints and antiques. Accoutrements include Kiehl’s toiletries, monogrammed terrycloth bathrobes, iPod docking stations and wireless Internet. Nightly turndown and 24-hour room services are available.
Diners at the Carlyle Restaurant, the hotel’s flagship dining establishment, can relish in French delicacies created by Executive Chef Jacques Sorci, as well as classic Carlyle entrées, including Dover Sole and Lobster Thermidor. The refined Café Carlyle supper club highlights French-American fare and classic cabaret entertainment, while the Thierry Despont-designed Bemelmans Bar serves American cuisine in a fanciful atmosphere filled with chocolate-brown leather banquettes and a leaf-covered ceiling trimmed in 24-karat gold. The two-tiered Gallery, which features Turkish delights and English tea, dazzles as well, with a setting inspired by the Sultan’s dining room at Turkey’s Topikapi Palace.
