  Bordered by Man O'War Harbor, the serene Upachaya Eco-Lodge & Wellness Resort is located in a secluded, tranquil part of Roatan Island off the northern coast of Honduras. Upachaya, Sanskrit for “growing and improving,” devotes itself to the renewal of mind, body and spirit within nature’s spectacular setting: along bay shores surrounded by fruit trees, mangroves, blossoming plumeria, ginger, helaconias and orchid gardens. Massage and body therapies can be enjoyed in various locations throughout the eco-friendly resort, and guests can participate in yoga and meditation classes in the open-air pavilion. The Caribbean retreat, which boasts the only dock in the entire bay, is within minutes of the Meso-American Barrier Reef, allowing fun-loving visitors the chance to kayak, scuba dive and snorkel by sea; ziplining and parasailing also are available on the island. At Upachaya’s flagship restaurant, light, nutritious dishes are prepared with fresh-picked produce and herbs from the resort’s gardens.

Spa treatments are offered throughout Upachaya’s nearly three acres — on the private dock overlooking the sea, poolside or in the comfort of guest rooms — immersing visitors in both the island’s lush vegetation and the resort’s unpretentious, relaxed vibe. Services include deep tissue, Swedish and hot stone massage, crystal therapy and herbal wraps, and rituals utilize the Roatan Naturally product line, created exclusively by Upachaya. Secluded without being isolated, Upachaya Eco-Lodge is nestled on Man O’War Harbour’s serene bay shores, along the borders of Sandy Bay National Park. The picturesque setting provides guests with the exciting opportunity to explore snorkeling, kayaking or saltwater fishing for red snapper, tuna and more. Refreshing dips in the eco-conscious Upachaya’s outdoor swimming pool are a must, as are treks through the 160-acre hiking trails of the nearby Blue Harbor Arboretum. For the adventurous crowd, there is zip lining at Gumbalimba Activities Park (also popular for its zoo). More leisurely endeavors include rounds on the local 18-hole Pristine Bay golf course, quiet strolls amidst the Carambola gardens and reflective, nature-watching moments while lounging on Upachaya’s dock, currently the only one found in the bay.

The intimate Chakra Lodge houses five guest rooms, four of them double occupancy, and a family suite that accommodates up to four guests. Interiors are ample and comfortable in style and feature traditional furnishings and private bathrooms, as well as ceiling fans, air conditioning and outdoor hammocks.

Guests will dine on healthful, tasty fare at the tropical-inspired Upachaya restaurant, where various options include seafood, chicken and vegetarian dishes. Seasonal menu items are rich in locally grown fresh fruits and vegetables, and a majority of desserts are gluten free. The resort is happy to cater to guests’ special dietary needs.
