About White Orchid Inn

The White Orchid Inn and Spa is an adults-only, intimate beachfront resort in Flagler Beach, Florida, just south of St. Augustine on the Atlantic coast. A renovated mansion, the inn has just ten guest rooms, each of which features its own luxurious variation on the property's sleek, art deco aesthetic concept. Swept by sea breezes carrying the refreshing scent of the surf, the White Orchid also houses whirlpools and two swimming pools, including a heated mineral pool. Even more secluded luxury can be found at the spa, a tucked-away oasis where guests can experience a wide range of all-natural, rejuvenating treatments.

A small number of guests, an adults-only atmosphere, and affordable rates make the White Orchid a popular romantic and girl-pal getaway locale. Honeymoon and romance vacation packages include a rose-petal bath, champagne, and complimentary bicycle rental; other packages come with spa credits up to $150. After relaxing on the beach or taking a dip in the heated mineral pool, vacationers can explore one of the nearby state parks, or take advantage of local shopping, fine dining, and world-class golf.

Amenities included: spa services, heated mineral pool, swimming pool, full breakfast, afternoon wine and appetizers, beach chairs, umbrellas, bicycles, non-commercial music and movie channels and wireless high-speed Internet access

The spa at the White Orchid is designed to provide the highly personalized service one might expect from such an intimate facility. The 1,500-square-foot spa incorporates Eastern design elements including dark tropical colors and antique kimonos. Unrushed services are administered in all five luxuriously appointed treatment rooms.

The treatment menu features a wide selection of Western spa favorites and some exotic options such as the 80-minute Swe-Thai Massage, a combination of yoga-style passive stretching and flexibility-building techniques. Four-to-six-hour spa packages include use of the heated mineral pool and a spa lunch (served in an oceanfront dining room) in addition to popular services, e.g. the rejuvenating Hydralessence Facial or the Phyto Marine Therapy Wrap integrating mineral-rich sea mud from Brittany. Couples' massage is a common way to begin or conclude a day of sunbathing or outdoor exploration with a significant other.

The White Orchid has a 16' x 40' chlorinated swimming pool and a 20'x 12' heated mineral pool.

Rooms & Dining

Each of the White Orchid's ten rooms includes amenities such as a whirlpool for two and wireless high-speed internet access. The Flamingo Room, for example, encompasses a private patio, queen-sized bed, and convenient pool-adjacent location, while the aptly named Room with it All features a king-sized four-poster bed, oceanfront views, and a poolside verandah. The Orient Suite has an extra sitting room and a minimalist, Asian-inspired aesthetic.

Complimentary served-to-order breakfast is included in the room rate, with fresh fruit, croissants, and a variety of quiches served daily. Wine and light snacks are served in the afternoon. In addition, guests can order picnic lunches, spa lunches, or fruit and cheese baskets to take with them to the beach or on a day trip.

A number of fine restaurants can be discovered in the town of Flagler Beach, many of which offer a la carte oceanfront dining. Culinary options range from fast-food outlets and casual seaside snack shacks to gourmet seafood and Italian cuisine.

The inn's wine cellar houses an array or red and white vintages that are ready for purchase or consumption in the romantic seclusion of a guest suite.

Activities

The White Orchid provides guests with beach furniture and umbrellas in order to make sunbathing as comfortable and convenient as possible. Complimentary bicycles are provided for a day trip or a brief excursion through the seaside town of Flagler Beach.

The nearby nine-hole Ocean Palm Golf Course is open to the public and catches ocean breezes that make golfing a pleasure, even in the summertime. Also in the general vicinity, Washington Oaks Gardens State Park offers nearly two miles of hiking and biking nature trails as well as recreational fishing for flounder, blue fish, and trout. The 144-acre Gamble Rogers State Park in Flagler Beach provides a stunning locale for coastal camping, swimming, and fishing with 34 oceanside campsites.

About 30 miles north of Flagler Beach lies the town of St. Augustine, also known as "the ancient city," where visitors can explore cobblestone streets and colonial architecture in the meticulously restored historic district. The town's history as a 16th-century Spanish outpost in the New World is reflected in the Old Florida Museum, where guests can experience the life of an early American settler, and the Gonzalez-Alvarez House, the oldest surviving colonial dwelling in Florida. Visitors can also take advantage of water sports such as charter fishing and parasailing.

I went to the White Orchid Inn as a special treat for my 50th birthday. I wanted someplace quiet and relaxing, with a beach and a spa. I got exactly what I was wanted and more! The White Orchid Inn is a beautiful, well kept bed & breakfast. The rooms are clean, comfortable and beautifully decorated; mine had a huge jacuzzi which I really enjoyed. The inn is small enough, only 10 rooms, to feel intimate and cozy. But it has the amenities and services of a much larger facility, including 2 pools; bikes and beach gear for use by guests; and a full service spa. The daily breakfast was wonderful, home-baked breads and made-to-order omelets. The daily Happy Hour, with wine and snacks included in your room fee, was a welcome bonus! You can be as friendly or as private as you want; I felt completely comfortable as a solo traveler. The hosts and staff are kind and helpful, and full of local knowledge. The spa was heaven. I spent one full day there, getting scrubbed, wrapped, massaged, etc. The spa staff are skilled and professional. A yummy lunch was included. When my pedicure overlapped with Happy Hour, they brought my wine to me there! I highly recommend the White Orchid Inn for a romantic getaway or a special solo treat!

I went to this spa for the 2nd time last Nov. while I was on R&R from Afghanistan. Every time it gets better. The staff is exceptionally professional and the spa services are absolutely the most relaxing. This was the spa where I also took my first solo vacation, and it was perfect for the occasion. I would recommend anyone on the east coast to visit this spa. Every time I leave the spa relaxed and rejuvenated. I wish I could go now!

I just recently celebrated my 40th birthday and decided that I would have a spa get away. I needed some R&R. I found the White Orchid Inn on this website and read the reviews. The reviews sold me on the spa.I travel several times a year, and this was the best solo vacation I've ever taken. The White Orchid Inn provides each guest with excellent service. The entire staff of the White Orchid Inn and Spa are warm, inviting and friendly. I felt very comfortable. As soon as you walk into the spa it gives you a hug. I felt at home . The staff just made you feel relaxed and nutured. The spa services were the best that I've every had. My favorite service was the Lomi Lomi massage. I felt like butter after the massage. I am looking forward to making this an annual retreat.

I needed a last minute getaway to relax and recharge and this is exactly what the doctor ordered!! I found it on a Saturday night and checked in on Monday and spent four days there. This place was great. Quiet, relaxing, great spa and staff. On the beach, within walking distance to pier and a great seafoodrestaurant (fresh fish only!), bikes/helmets and beach chairs available at inn at no charge, great homemade breakfast included each am, cocktail hr in the afternoon, 2 pools 1 heated.Very clean, nice accommodations. Plenty of privacy. Never had to use my car, could walk into town in 7 minutes. I highly recommend this charming little inn and spa on the beach because it was very affordable and very nice owners and staff.Kelly from Palm City, FL

The White Orchid is the perfect, out of the way, close to everything beach get-away. The rooms are very nicely kept and offer plenty of space. The hotel is small and quaint but large enough that you do not feel that you are on top of the other guests, plenty of elbow room. It was great to have the option of two pools, the hot mineral pool was divine!!! The spa had a nice variety of services...my favorite by far was the Swe-Thai massage. The owners Bob and Karen as well as the staff at the hotel and spa were super friendly. The breakfast was delicious and the wine in the afternoon was a nice treat. The other guests were couples or gals traveling together, but this place works great for the solo traveler too. There are plenty of dining options within walking distance and outlets malls are within easy reach by car. I will definitely visit again, with my husband, gal pals, or on my own; the White Orchid is great for all options!

This was my first spa experience and I'm hooked. The service was excellent, accomodations were warm and inviting. My mom and I visited for 2 days, and it was absolutely wonderful. We both are so busy and stressed most of the time there's no time for rest and relaxation, but this was just what the doctor ordered! Everyone made us feel welcome, I only wish we could have stayed longer. Maybe next year!

What should you do when you take your first real adult vacation ever? And you're in a high-stress job, you're suffering from spinal and shoulder injuries, AND you live in 10-million person New York? You must seek the antidote, of course: a peaceful retreat to a quiet bed and breakfast with an amazing spa, in a small but friendly town in Florida. My physical therapist told me to go relax, and I did!White Orchid is a bed and breakfast, with three buildings making up the complex, and I was lucky enough to be able to see all the rooms. As for the “bed” part, the rooms are each unique in size, style and furnishings, but share a wonderful attention to detail regarding both amenities (cable TV, wireless Internet, refrigerators, fluffy towels), and the soothing décor with an Oriental flair. The beds are amazingly comfortable, the furniture is cozy, the closets are spacious, and several of the rooms have Jacuzzis and futon sofas for extra guests. Two of the rooms have open plans, including the baths (Balcony Suite and Serenity), while the rest have separate baths, and the Balcony Suite and Orient Suite have separate living rooms, which the couples staying there enjoyed greatly. I stayed in the Room to Relax, which was quiet and convenient to the pool, and a veranda outside gave me a private palm tree to read under and a great view of both sunrise and sunset. As for the “breakfast” part, everything is fresh and fabulous, out of this world, and the daily happy hour is a nice time to chat with other guests and staff while enjoying a glass of wine and homemade hors d’oeuvres. The White Orchid property is lovely, with both a regular pool and a hot mineral pool (where I spent a lot of time, as did most of the other guests), and porches, verandas and balconies for sunning and relaxing. The beach is just across the street and we saw dolphins on several occasions! Wonderful waves make for great surfing, so the surfers told me. There is also fishing off the nearby pier. Myself, I was happy to sun and read and walk. Bonus: With very little city glow, there is great star-gazing.Flagler Beach is a town on a grid, with restaurants, post office, bookstore, gift shops, pier, Flagler Beach town hall, AND great bookstore all within walking distance, which was great for a city girl like me who didn't want the hassle of a car rental. If you're like me and don't drive, flying into Daytona and taking a taxi is a completely stress-free option. And the restaurants vary in price and fanciness, so you can stay within your budget and dress up or down as you prefer. Be prepared to eat well—the seafood is fresh, the chefs are wonderful, and the plates big at every place I ate.On the other hand, if you're driving, there are even more great restaurants, historical sites and activities within driving distance, including Daytona to the south and St. Augustine to the north; many guests took advantage of this and made day trips. With the spa being right on A1A, you can also drive along the coast for miles the same way the old Mercury astronauts used to, and enjoy a truly scenic route.Karen, Bob and the staff are incredibly knowledgeable about all the local places and happenings, and gave great suggestions for activities and eateries. They also went the extra mile for special requests. One guest arranged a romantic tableau for his marriage proposal to his girlfriend on her birthday (she said yes!), and they will arrange picnics, snack trays, etc. Bikes and beach gear are provided free, and there is a small gift shop that also has last-minute needs like sunscreen and hats, as well as a wonderfully stocked wine cellar.A variety of equally relaxed guests were there with me—among them the aforementioned newly engaged couple, a couple on their honeymoon, a mother in her 80s who wanted to treat her two daughters, a couple celebrating their 20th anniversary, a business traveler in for one night of rest and spa time, a couple getting in some quality time before he deploys back to Iraq, two single women celebrating their recent graduation from medical school, and fancy-free me. The Inn seems to attract compatible, easygoing people, and I met several repeat guests, and had dinner with other guests on a few evenings, and a great time was had by all.But without a doubt, the spa is the pièce-de-resistance. It is calm and inviting, without that irritating New-Agey thing that you can sometimes find in hotel spas. Several of the staff told me they moved there specifically to work at the White Orchid, and I can think of no higher recommendation--nor can I ever stop singing the praises of the staff! Every person I worked with asked very good questions about my health, what kind of bodywork I usually did, and what I wanted to get out of the experience. Another nice thing they do to make your stay more relaxed: you can leave your tips at the end of your stay, which is great if you have multiple services with the various therapists and aestheticians, and it also means that you don’t have to worry about tipping when you’re all nice and floaty. The best thing I did was book ahead about two weeks prior, because the spa is open to the local residents as well as the guests, and the schedule fills quickly every day. And once I got there, I was able to review my choices with the spa manager based on my recent consultation with my physical therapist, which was most helpful. In several cases, I had the same massage therapist more than once, which meant they already knew my spots and could go even deeper the second time around. And if you still need convincing, even the GUYS who grumblingly consented to a massage, facial, or pedicure loved it!Since I was staying Monday to Sunday, I decided to spread out my treatments over all the days and to try things I’d never done before. So every massage was a new experience. My first day, Tuesday, I had a great, fun spa manicure and the soothing and flowing Lomi Lomi massage, during which I fell asleep. Ahhh. Wednesday, I had the wonderful spa pedicure—my feet have never looked so good—and the gently relaxing hot stone massage, which was great help at loosening my injured shoulder muscles. Mmmm. Thursday, I had the warm herbal body wrap (body wraps a new experience for me, and definitely worth it at this spa) which left me limp and obedient during the powerfully healing Swe-Thai massage that followed. Ooooh. Friday, I had the amazing, amazing Watsu massage in the heated pool. It was wonderful to float and completely relax and not have to worry about shifting or turning over; the therapist did all the work, and I was a noodle for the rest of the day—including the time I spent on my hydrating facial that afternoon, complete with a fruit mask that made me hungry for mangoes. Sighhh. Saturday, I finished up with a salt body polish and a seaweed wrap and a few hours soak in the mineral pool, ready to reluctantly take my beautiful skin and melted bod back to New York.Any downside?...Hmmm. Only that I couldn't stay longer, or do every treatment on the list! I plan to go back, and I have been recommending the place to everyone I know. I left feeling pampered, cosseted, blissed out and blessed by everyone. With apologies to James Lipton: If heaven exists, what would I like God to say when I arrive at the Pearly Gates? “We have a branch of the White Orchid Inn here!”
