Restorative
Restorative yoga is a form of yoga that seeks to achieve physical, mental and emotional relaxation with the aid of props. It is not just for the elderly or frail, but it is a great counter-balancing yoga practice for everyone, young and old. Restorative helps activate the Parasympathetic nervous system (PNS), which in turn lowers blood pressure, stimulates the immune system, lowers the heart rate and keeps the endocrine system working properly. The body’s reactions to stress encountered through work, family life, athletic training, illness and other stressors are calmed by the PNS, when it’s healthy. If this system is overstressed or weak, the immune system becomes weak possibly creating more stress or possible illness. Restorative Yoga balances the Sympathetic and Parasympathetic nervous systems allowing the body to heal and relax, benefitting overall health. |
