  With just 40 guest rooms, Lake Austin Spa Resort provides a personalized, intimate wellness experience on the shores of peaceful constant-level Lake Austin, adjacent to a lush nature preserve and surrounded by verdant hills and towering trees. Organic gardens are the source of many herbs and vegetables found not only in the lakeside resort’s award-winning cuisine, but also in some of the more than 100 unique treatments at LakeHouse Spa.

  The spa, casual in Hill Country style with an elegant twist, features lovely antiques and artwork, soothing fountains and sleek textiles. A spa café serves delicious healthy fare, and saunas, steam areas and whirlpools overlook stone-walled gardens. Treatments themselves can be taken in one of the outdoor cabanas, the Treatment Porch or Bamboo Room garden suite with in-ground hot tub and shower. Overnight guests can also enjoy ample fitness activities and classes as well as inspiring discovery workshops.

The 25,000-square-foot LakeHouse Spa has 20 indoor, sound-proof treatment rooms with private showers and four outdoor treatment spaces. The spa offers a full array of refreshing spa services, including more than 100 customized skin and body treatments developed by its in-house experts and inspired from the region and around the world. Guests should try the Tour of Texas: Designed to purely indulge, this signature ritual combines a prickly pear exfoliating scrub, agave nectar wrap and full-body essential oil massage. A variety of product lines are used in treatments—SkinCeuticals, Naturopathica, Priori and Aromatherapy Associates—as are organic herbs and vegetables handpicked from the resort’s verdant gardens.

When not unwinding with a treatment, guests may dine on gourmet cuisine in the Aster Café, lounge in the steam room, sauna or whirlpool, or take a dip in one of two swimming pools, including an indoor Junior Olympic-size pool.

Spa guests ages 13-18 must be accompanied by an adult.

Taking full advantage of its lakefront setting, Lake Austin Spa Resort offers an abundance of water activities—boating, kayaking, hydro biking or sculling lessons—and exercise classes in the water like yoga and Aqua Zumba. In addition, a yoga studio on a dock extending out into the lake provides an immediate at-ease vibe.

When not on the water, there is also a complete selection of inner and outer body work to explore, from Pilates and hiking to meditation and tai chi, allowing guests to try a variety of activities at many different levels. A 4,000-square-foot fitness center is located in the main building overlooking Lake Austin, and a particular delight is a tree house at the center of the grounds, which features workout studios and an entertainment center. Three pools are available to visitors as well: the resort pool, the spa’s alfresco palm pool and the Junior Olympic-size pool housed within the open-air pool barn.

Lake Austin Spa Resort has 40 bright and airy cottages designed with a classic country feel. Some of the cottages provide lake views or Japanese meditation gardens, and all have private porches with lounge furniture. There are four luxury cottages, which include gardens and fireplaces, and the Lady Bird Suite—the most decadent—has its own outdoor hot tub. All rooms feature sunlit bathrooms and Kohler steeping or soaking tubs, complimentary WiFi, custom-made furnishings and Saltillo-tile flooring. Thoughtful touches include in-house lavender products and fresh-cut flowers from the resort’s gardens.

Food is a focal point at Lake Austin. Most ingredients are organic, and many herbs and vegetables are grown in the on-site gardens. Healthy lunch and dinner menus change seasonally and emphasize retaining full, robust flavor. As well, each five-course dinner option concludes with a gourmet dessert. Various venues to take meals include Aster Café, in room and the dining room, which conveniently has a Friendship Table for guests spa-ing solo.
