Guests have delighted in inimitable services and amenities at The Spa at Pinehurst since its 2002 debut. In a design evocative of the Pinehurst Resort’s Carolina hotel, the Spanish colonial-style spa exteriors feature a signature copper roof and a façade inspired by a conservatory that once graced the resort grounds; indoors, dark wood and warm hues set an inviting tone. The 31,000-square-foot spa, awarded four stars by Forbes Travel Guide, has 28 treatment rooms, six of them suites, along with a saltwater pool with hot tub, full-service salon, and locker rooms with whirlpools, saunas, and steam rooms.

Botanical treatments utilize product brands like Naturopathica, Sothys, and Aveda, not to mention locally harvested ingredients. The signature Heart of the Pines, a dry brush exfoliation and massage uses fresh, long-leaf pine harvested in Pinehurst village. At the heart of the historic property are no less than eight 18-hole championship golf courses designed by the likes of Donald Ross, Tom and George Fazio, Rees Jones, and Ellis Maples, making Pinehurst the largest golf resort in the country; as the site of the upcoming 2014 men’s and women’s U.S. Open Championships, the historic resort will also be the only location to accommodate all five USGA major championships. All skill levels are invited to hit the links and take advantage of professional instruction at the Pinehurst Golf Academy.

For non-golfers, there is a 24-court tennis center with pro shop and private instruction, a 31,000-square-foot, Cybex-equipped fitness center, croquet and lawn games, fishing and kayaking on the resort’s private Lake Pinehurst, and much more. The AAA Four-Diamond, boutique-style Holly Inn evokes an Old World charm, elegantly furnished in botanical artwork and jewel-toned Tiffany lamps, complemented by thoughtful details like rocking chairs found in every guest room. The Mobil Four-Star/AAA Four-Diamond Carolina, opened in 1901, provides its own allure; nicknamed the “Queen of the South” for its century-old columns, wide verandas, and signature copper cupola, the 230-room hotel is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
