The treatment menu and the spa design at Skaná are founded on American Indian healing principles and cultural influences. ("Skaná" is the Oneida word for peace.) The 33,000-square-foot facility has 12 treatment rooms, including a private VIP suite, full-service salon, fitness center and therapeutic co-ed mineral pool. With a welcome area inspired by a traditional longhouse, Skaná nestles an indoor herb garden adjacent to the private VIP Suite. Light cuisine is served in the informal spa cafe.

Modern treatments combine natural products (including Naturopathica and Kerstin Florian) and herbs, such as sweet grass, cedar and sage, used by American Indians for centuries to promote harmony, health and beauty. Signature spa treatments, including the Sage Stone Massage, focus on the use of herbal and mineral wraps, warm stone therapy and reviving soaks to restore balance and harmony. Treatments begin with The Balancing Waters Ritual, incorporating benefits of the steam rooms, saunas, whirlpools and co-ed mineral pool.

Great Getaway Spa

Great experience at Skana. Mineral pool, sauna, steam, and whirlpool were all very relaxing. Not crowded either. Great massage, and overall a great Spa experience. The casino/resort is in the middle of nowhere on an Indian reservation, so not much else in the area. The only bad thing is the casino and hotel lobby reek of cigarette smoke. The Spa is well removed from that though. Spa is great. Casino/Hotel is nice, but smoky.

This really is a beautiful and relaxing spa. I had both a facial and massage. I preferred the facial but the massage was good too. The facility itself is housed inside the Lodge at Turning Stone which is a very tranquil setting. My favorite part of this spa is it's luxurious hot tub room and mineral pool with fountain.

The Ultimate First Time Spa Experience

If you have never been to a day spa for a treatment, going to the Turning Stone Resort and having the staff at Skana treat you will set the bar very high. Upon entering the state of the art facilities of Turning Stone Resort, you are immediately swept away into a state of escape from the ordinary. The mood of the spa is soothing. The staff were helpful and professional, helping you to feel at ease, explaining the treatments. I enjoyed a luxurious body scrub with moisturizers made exclusively for the spa. I then took full advantage of the jacuzzi in the ladie's spa area, and the wonderful shower and dressing facilities, complete with amenities. If I ever found myself in Verona again, I would be staying at Turning Stone and being pampered again!

If your in the mood for romance...

My husband and I love coming here at least once a year! And if you are coming as a couple I highly recommend the VIP suite. The Skana is the only spa I know of in upstate NY that offers a room with private tubs, steam room, sauna and shower. I don't believe there are fitness facilities available unless you are a guest at the lodge. But we are only interested in relaxing and romance, not sweating on a treadmill, so I still give this facility 5 stars.

Love Coming Here

I love coming here and try to visit at least twice a year. The spa services are top notch, the environment is lovely and the pampering superb! It is a bit expensive for this area but it is by far the nicest facility in Central New York. It compares to spas in Palm Beach and Las Vegas and is only a half hour away from home. I feel like I've been away on vacation after a visit to Skana. The Lodge is a nice place to stay and the whole Turning Stone Complex is fun and has a variety of activities.

Big disappointment! Big $$$, Crappy Service
By S | September 12, 2009

For what they charge, someone should be nice. I spent over $600 for two people and had very poor service. From being chastised for a five minute late arrival (road work reduced the speed limit by 20 miles per hour!) to having to ask for everything (never once offered water, never shown fitness area!) - not what it should be for a top spa. Don't waste your time or your money!

I actually visited the Ashi Spa instead because it took to long for someone to reach me for an appointment so I went to the other spa on property. One of the hair stylist happened to be from Skana who was responsible for doing my sisters hair who happend to be my maid of honor. I wasn't particularly happy with her up-do the stylist was offended and complained that she couldn't please us. The stylist was supposed to do my sisters nail as well but sister of course refused so my sister didn't have her nails done for the wedding. The only reason that I know the stylist was from Skana was because the stylist who did my hair told me and was to in shock of her behavior and said people go over to skana because they think it's nicer & more expensive but that's the kind of service they get.

Best Kept Secret

I spent a Friday afternoon almost totally alone here! I only saw one other lady waiting for her treatment and one in the locker room when I was leaving. All of the staff was very helpful. The robe I wore was top of the line. The towels were so big and soft. I loved the Native American theme, especially the background music. I didn't realize there was a place to work out on fitness equipment. Next time I will schedule some time there before anything else. My only minor complaint...the lights were too dim to read the nice selection of magazines while waiting for my spa treatment.

My husband and I spent today at the Skana Spa and had a very hard time leaving. The atmosphere of the place is serene and relaxing, the staff is friendly, knowledgeable and very customer service oriented. The sauna, steam room, whirlpool and mineral pool were amazing; sparkling clean and heightened the relaxation you felt when simply descending the stairs from the window filled reception area to the dimly lit spa area. The treatment room was a pleasant temperature, the facial bed was heated, the esthetician was talented and professional and I even got a few free samples of the products used during my facial. Take the time both before and after your treatment time to enjoy the Balancing Waters Ritual. You won't want to leave and my husband and I plan on making this a monthly trip.

Heaven on earth...

My mother and I made an overnight trip to Turning Stone. After resting briefly we went to the new Skana Spa. I could see that they went to great lenghts to distinguish the new Spa from the old one. The location was away from the main hotel and that right there set the tone for what was to follow. We went few hours before our massage appts. to make sure there is plent of relaxation time. The reception area was very spacious and true to Skana's overall theme and message. The facilities were very clean, staff courteous and well informed about their services. Showers were very roomy with ample private dressing area. The lounge with fireplace was just what we needed for before and after our services. We felt relaxed, pampered and revived. Exactly what we were hoping for. My only regret was that when I made the hotel reservation, I didn't quite understand the difference between the lodge which is next to the Spa and the main hotel bulding. I took a tour of the lodge and I will definately be staying there next time. The rooms looked very contemporary yet warm and serene. Can't wait to go back to Skana Spa...with more friends!
