About Grand Hotel Excelsior Vittoria
Opened in 1834, Grand Hotel Excelsior Vittoria is located on a cliff top affording spectacular views of the Bay of Naples. To reach this tucked-away destination, travelers must navigate a quaint driveway beginning at Sorrento's main square. Set in a beautiful Mediterranean location, the fin de siecle-style property features luxurious salons, picturesque gardens, an orange grove, and a panoramic terrace where guests enjoy views of the island of Ischia and Mount Vesuvius. An elevator takes guests from the hotel down to the marina below. Austere columns scattered throughout are a visual reminder of Sorrento's ancient-Roman roots.
Recent renovations have made the hotel even more attractive to luxury travelers, culminating in the addition of a holistic spa in 2006 and a gym in 2010. The 1,614-square-foot (150 square meters) spa facility immersed in lush vegetation evokes its origins as a greenhouse with glass ceilings and huge windows letting in sunlight. Children have their own places to play, including a shaded playground and a kids-only pool. After a spa treatment, a swim, or an afternoon cocktail on the terrace, guests can stroll through Sorrento or along the world-famous Amalfi coast.

The Boutique Spa La Serra is located in a converted greenhouse that is 1,614 square feet (150 square meters) in size. The spa interiors feature a color scheme dominated by beige, white, and pale blue, all soothing hues chosen to complement natural light, which floods the facility through enormous windows and glass ceilings. Both comfortable, large treatment suites--one for single spa-goers and another for couples--have a private whirlpool, rain shower and ensuite changing room. In addition, guests can relax under olive and orange trees in each of the suites' private outdoor garden. A third treatment room is dedicated to shiatsu massage on futon mattresses.
The signature Orange Garden treatment lasts 150 minutes and includes a full-body massage with orange essential oils, followed by a scalp massage and a relaxing bath session. After sipping herbal tea in the private suite garden, guests are given a foot massage to conclude the treatment. Couples wishing to enjoy services together can book the Honeymoon Ritual, a 90-minute treatment for two involving sandal essential oil, a tandem jasmine-scented whirlpool bath, and relaxation in the garden.
A variety of anti-aging and detoxifying rituals is available for the body and face, among them customised massages using nourishing, all-natural Salin de Biosel and Organic Pharmacy products. Algae wraps, detoxifying foot baths, nourishing manicures, and a gentleman's menu are some additional specialties. Day clients are accepted.
Adjacent to the spa, there is an outdoor swimming pool ringed with umbrella-shaded sunbeds (open April-October, weather permitting) and an orange grove nearby to relax. Kids can use a pool of their own just steps away.

Facilities & Amenities
The landscape surrounding Grand Hotel Excelsior Vittoria is ideal as either a backdrop to resort-style relaxation or a territory for sightseeing. The property incorporates several terraces with magnificent views of the Bay of Naples and the island of Ischia. Five acres of private gardens provide ample space for strolling, as well as much of the fruit used in the hotel's meals and spa treatments.
Guests can tour lovely coastal villages by sea with one of the hotel's boats for daily hire. Snorkeling excursions can be organised on request.
Kids can also enjoy some space to run around at the children's playground, nestled in a grassy orchard with plenty of shade.
Sorrento's main square is a short, scenic walk from the property. In town, guests can visit acclaimed restaurants excelling in regional cuisine or boutiques selling local crafts. Historical sites in Sorrento include the Cloister of St. Francis, built in the 14th century and still home to a group of Franciscan friars.
A private elevator transports guests from the Vittoria Terrace to a harbor at the foot of the cliff on which the property is situated. From there, summer travelers can take a hydrofoil to the islands of Capri, Ischia, Positano, or Naples. Alternatively, nature lovers can follow one of the celebrated walking trails that vein the Amalfi coastline.

Rooms & Dining
Grand Hotel Excelsior Vittoria has 97 rooms and suites distributed among three wings. Most accommodations have a private balcony or terrace with views of either the Bay of Naples or the hotel gardens. Averaging 323 square feet (30 square meters) in size, rooms feature antiques, trompe l'oeil wall designs, and authentic 19th-century frescoes dating from the hotel's earliest days.
The hotel also offers suites named either for luminaries who once stayed at the hotel or after themed décor (e.g. the painted depictions of Roman culture in the duplex Pompeii Suite). The 77-square-meter (829 square feet) Suite Margaret (as in Britain's Princess Margaret) treats guests like royalty with a cast-iron belle époque tub in its elegant cream-toned bathroom, among other luxuries. All rooms have free Internet connection.
Guests can start the day sumptuously with breakfast in the elegant Vittoria dining room, decorated in a classical 19th-century style, complete with frescoed ceiling. During cooler months, Neapolitan-style lunches and dinners are served here. Warmer months bring al fresco candlelight fine dining on the unique and panoramic Bosquet Terrace, where views of Mount Vesuvius add to the romantic ambiance. A weekly buffet with live piano music is held on the Vittoria Terrace in summer. Tasting, vegetarian, and children's menus are available.
The Orangerie poolside restaurant and snack bar serves lunch specialties such as homemade pizza and pasta daily from May to October, and jazz evenings are organised by the pool.
