About August Moon Spa at La Tourelle Resort
Sitting upon 70 acres of rolling countryside, the La Tourelle Resort and August Moon Spa offers visitors much more than a breath of fresh air. The scenic property is ripe for exploration, and an in-house Adventure Center Concierge is available to customize active getaways for guests of all athletic abilities, including biking and hiking trips across the trails of the Finger Lakes region of New York State. The family-friendly hotel, which opened in 1986, offers plenty to do indoors, too. Wine for the resort's two top-notch restaurants is procured from area vineyards, and the local libations are also used during wine-based therapies at August Moon Spa.
The country escape offers many seasonal activities that make use of the unspoiled terrain, with golfing and fishing available in the warmer months and snowshoeing and cross-country skiing on offer when the grounds are covered in snow. Nearby, the city of Ithaca boasts a bustling downtown, an emerging arts scene, and two active college campuses. Wedding, banquet, and meeting facilities are available at La Tourelle, which has 54 guest rooms decorated on various themes.

The 4,500-square-foot August Moon Spa offers a picturesque respite from everyday stresses. It was designed with an Eastern flair by local artist Kumi Korf and features an Asian design aesthetic including woven grass walls, Japanese prints, and ceramic teapots. Two tranquility rooms await guests; one with a waterfall inspired by the area's natural wonders and the other with a warming fireplace. The seven Asian-themed treatment rooms draw inspiration from the five elements of nature -- earth, water, fire, air, and wood -- and each has its own private whirlpool tub. They provide a comfortable setting for popular services such as the aromatherapeutic Five Elements August Moon Bath; a Vichy shower waterfall experience; or the Sushi Wrap, a seaweed body wrap accompanied by an avocado face mask and a sesame ginger oil massage. Specialized face and body treatments are available for teens, too. The spa uses various product lines as well as its own private August Moon label.
A nail salon, steam rooms and saunas, and a changing area are also housed in the tranquil spa. Guests who seek an intense indoor workout needn't sacrifice the majestic scenery: A new exercise room with uninterrupted views of the valley is equipped with an elliptical machine, a treadmill, a recumbent bicycle, and a stationary bike. Private yoga training is available by appointment.

Rooms & Dining
All of La Tourelle's 55 deluxe rooms and suites are appropriated with modern luxuries, including Jacuzzi tubs and pillow-top mattresses, and some have fireplaces. Many different design themes are employed in various sections of the hotel, with some rooms sporting intricately carved Mexican furniture and others assuming a charming French country motif. The Tower Room -- with its round bed and separate entrance -- can provide a romantic backdrop for a weekend getaway. The Tennis Country Cottage, which sleeps up to six, is ideal for a family retreat.
Breakfast, lunch and weekend brunch is available at The Bistro, which serves "farm to table" regional cuisine sourced from the Finger Lakes & Hudson Valley regions. For dinner, guests often retreat to the John Thomas Steakhouse, a fine dining restaurant housed in a nineteenth-century farmhouse, where they can sample dry-aged beef, fresh seafood, and vegetarian cuisine. Area wine, beer and spirits are available from The Bistro and lobby bar.
