  The breathtaking Masseria San Domenico is designed to satisfy even the most demanding traveler. The Moorish-inspired, boutique-style resort and spa features whitewashed fifteenth-century structures surrounded by olive groves. Guests seeking seaside luxury will find a private beach stretching along the coast approximately 1,600 feet from the large stone building. The in-house Mediterranean-themed Spa and Thalasso Centre, which has 22 treatment rooms, incorporates oceanic elements by specializing in thalassotherapy, or treatments that use seawater.

  Making full use of the landscape, the resort boasts a scenic 18-hole golf course, a free-form saltwater swimming pool and two tennis courts. Inside the stone rooms and arched corridors lie a handful of dining options and 47 guest rooms and suites.

The Spa and Thalasso Centre celebrates the seawater, rich in potassium, magnesium and other vital minerals, and seaweed, with its vitamins and minerals, of the nearby Adriatic Sea. The mineral-rich water is used in massages, muscle treatments performed by underwater jets and skin-purifying services, often in combination with seaweed or other underwater elements. The spa’s sparkling seawater treatment pool, set under a vaulted ceiling of glass, as well as one of the 22 treatment rooms, are where spa-goers indulge in thalassotherapy services. Classic services like massage, wraps and facials are also on offer and incorporate products like Thalgo, Carita and Masseria’s exclusive line that contains local olive oil.

A well-appointed fitness center is also available in the Mediterranean-style spa, as are a sauna, a steam room and separate men’s and women’s changing areas with showers. Personal training, aerobics, aqua aerobics and weight-loss classes are available upon request.

It's tempting to stay on the grounds of the Masseria San Domenico: The 18-hole San Domenico Golf Ccourse, outdoor saltwater swimming pool, tennis courts and stretches of hiking trails, beach and olive groves provide scenic diversions and quiet sanctuary. But an impressive list of historic cathedrals, baroque monuments, castles and museums renowned in Italy's Puglia region are just outside the resort's perimeter. In nearby Brindisi, visitors can walk through the archaeological museum, view an ancient set of Roman columns or visit Ostuni, known as the white city for its white walls and white-painted architecture. Close to Fasano, another of the area's whitewashed towns, cave dwellings have been found. Near the town of Bari sits the medieval Castel del Monte, which was erected by Emperor Frederick in the thirteenth century; shopping is also a popular pastime in Bari. Outdoor aficionados may also enjoy horseback riding and deep sea fishing in the area.

Accommodations come equipped with home-away-from-home essentials, such as satellite TV, DVD players, WiFi and mini bars, and offer views of the surrounding olive groves, gardens and courtyard.

The lauded San Domenico restaurant serves regional specialties accompanied by a wide selection of local wines. Much of the olive oil and produce used in the kitchen are grown on Masseria San Domenico's land, and fresh fish and shellfish come from the nearby Adriatic coast. The Italianate restaurant is housed in an atmospheric vaulted dining room dating back to the 1700s. Vegetarian and Celiac diets can also be accommodated.
