Response from Mandala Wellness Retreat & Spa
My first response to seeing "Mom and Pop Spa" was that this was going to be a positive review! Long a supporter of mom and pop operations of all types, I think Mandala does share some positive characteristics with them. We are small, locally owned and operated, and provide a friendly, easy-paced atmosphere where many of our customers come time and time again and have become friends. It is distressing to read that these two ladies did not enjoy their experiences with us. I'm speaking of Dawn G and Terese L as they did come together. The "special" that was mentioned was one that was sent to our "newsletter readers only" with the request that they let us know that they had seen the special when they checked in. Dawn and Terese did not do this so we had no way of knowing - until later. Upon checking out, these ladies had 4 different gift certificates they wanted to apply to their services. That was fine, but our booking system is only designed to read/manage one gift certificate at a time so the complications began at that point. Rather than hold the ladies while trying find a solution, our receptionist suggested that they go on to their planned shopping trip while she cleared things up. When they returned, the receptionist had things ready to go, but then they mentioned the discounts and she had to start over again. It was most unfortunate, and we do apologize, but it was finally resolved - without the Better Business Bureau ever being involved. As for the lunch, treatments and staff, our wraps are fresh and most folks enjoy them. The point about the Sea Algae is well taken. We do tend to be rather "modest" in our treatment protocols and would not apply product in the areas mentioned. The point about the staff being overheard is really inexcusable. I brought this up immediately with everyone and it won't happen again. The building is small and open so reminders to speak quietly are now posted in appropriate places. I do think these ladies are accustomed to "big city spas" as they say. We are not that, and won't ever be. We will, however, continue to do our best to serve those who come our way. We have been in business for nearly 10 years now and I can honestly say that we have received only a handful of complaints in all this time. We take each quite seriously of course, as there is always room for improvement. Linda L.Davis,MSW,owner

Rooms & Dining
Spa guests may make reservations through the spa to stay at Lucille's Mountain Top Inn, the adjoining bed and breakfast. The inn has nine sunny guest rooms with contemporary, dark wood furniture, private bathrooms with heated towel racks, and a mountain or valley view. Four rooms also have whirlpool tubs in the bathrooms and fireplaces. All rooms are non-smoking and accommodate up to two people.
The inn has a quaint dining room, with dark wood paneling and homey accents, where breakfast is served. The casual spa café offers mostly vegetarian cuisine for brunch, lunch, and dinner, as well as healthy snacks and beverages. No alcohol is served on the premises.
