Right now is a great time to be a spa-goer, with more and more getaway and day spas offering serious bargains to beat the heat and the economy. Whatever the cause, the deals are out there – and SpaFinder is making it easy to find them.

1) Get on the Insider’s List
Register to receive newsletters from your favorite spas or ones you’d love to visit. Spa e-newsletters provide special offers often not made public elsewhere, and many run last-minute deals (especially in this economy). For example, Sundara Inn in Wisconsin emails offers and also gives their phone reservation staff exclusive offers to convey to clients. 2) Adopt the Group Mentality
Almost all spas offer discounts for groups, which can mean as few as three people. (Even if it’s just you and a friend, ask for a reduction; many spas offer great 2-for-1 deals.) Larger groups can garner as much as 20 to 30% off. And search for destination spas, like Utah’s Fitness Ridge or New Age Health Spa in NY, that welcome guests tripling up in rooms – for great savings on a great “friend” vacation.
3) A Resort-Spa Day Pass – An Affordable Ticket to Ride
At most resort and hotel spas, even with just the cost of one treatment, you can enjoy the spa/relaxation area pretty much the whole day, so book one treatment and enjoy hours of poolside napping or lounging in the hot tub and sauna. If you live, or are vacationing in, a resort area, call around to find the best day-pass rate and ask what’s included. As just one example, the Sheraton Wild Horse Pass in Arizona offers a $35 manicure and allows you to use the spa the entire day.
4) Off-Season Is Spa Deal Season
Summer months in spa meccas like Arizona and Utah are, needless to say, hot, and destination spas there offer great deals in these off months. That’s a great opportunity, because the spas make it easy to beat the heat. For example, day hikes start in the early morning, and in the heat of the day you can stick to indoor facilities and pools. When making a reservation, save even more by opting for a basic room, because at the spa you rarely spend much time there anyway.
Generally speaking, try to go where the dollar goes further. Europe is very expensive for Americans, so consider American spas or more exotic global locations. Eastern Europe (which has famous historical bathing facilities remade into modern spas), Canada, Mexico, Central America and Asian countries like Bali and Thailand can be more affordable, and have some gorgeous spa resorts. Remember that, in general, spas in the Midwest are cheaper than on either coast.
5) Hit the Mid-Week and Weekend Bargains
Most day and stay spas offer special deals on certain days or times of the week. For example, Cranwell Resort in MA has ‘Serenity Sundays’ – 50% off room rates and 20% off spa services on Sunday and Monday. Also, take advantage of “weekend after” pricing. Room rates often come down on the days after 4th of July or Labor Day.
If a destination spa doesn’t suit your budget this summer, save bucks at your local day spa by booking treatments on weekdays during slow times. At many spas, if you go Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday you can save 10-20%. Case in point: Oasis Day spa in Manhattan rolls back prices to 1998 on Wednesdays – a 60-minute massage is $70. Call local day spas or hit their websites and ask about midweek specials to compare.
6) Grab Spa Packages and All-Inclusive Pricing
When comparing destination spas, spend a little time doing the math to figure out exactly how much a spa package can save you, as well as investigating whether taxes, fees and tips are included. When spa certificates/treatment vouchers are offered with your stay, check the a la carte prices to see how many you can get—so you can mix and match and get the treatments you’re after. All-inclusive pricing deals – like the ‘Spa Girl Package’ at Silverado in Napa, CA (which includes treatments, food and lodging) – can be a steal.
7) Hit the Web and Do Online Spa Shopping
Keep a list of your favorite spas’ sites (or ones you’d love to go to) and check regularly for spur-of-the moment bargains (e.g., the “Last Minute Hot Deals” at Red Mountain in St George, UT). Just a half hour of online bargain hunting can pay off – and that includes checking day and stay spa deals at SpaFinder.com regularly.
8) Stretch Your Spa Dollar
Check in early, check out late. You may have to store your bags, but many spas are very understanding about arrivals and departures (be sure to check in advance). Select treatments that are a good "bang for your buck," like a scrub/wrap/massage combination (often less expensive than purchasing services separately).

Destination spas are often more flexible than other resorts, so don’t be afraid to ask what deal they can offer. When you arrive, consult blackboard specials, or ask reception about any last-minute deals – they’ll know what time is booked and what isn’t, and are highly motivated to fill up empty therapist time. Some spas offer free sessions rather than paying a therapist/trainer to sit without a client.
10) Drop the Hint About a Spa Gift Certificate
