Spa Finder Magazine Names Gary Walther Editor in Chief
Former Departures Magazine Editor in Chief to Expand Spa Finder's Affluent, Luxury-Lifestyle Readership

Spa Finder Magazine, the largest spa lifestyle and information publication, has named 25-year writing and editing vet Gary Walther as its editor in chief. Walther, who previously served as editor in chief for American Express' Departures magazine, will spearhead a major design and editorial upgrade to Spa Finder Magazine, sharpening its focus as the authority on luxury spas and associated lifestyle pursuits for affluent people. Walther will also broaden the magazine's editorial scope across the range of relaxation, fitness, wellness, beauty and fashion topics that touch the spa world and interest spa-lifestyle consumers.

Walther served as associate and senior editor at Travel & Leisure from 1986-89, and was then sent by American Express Publishing to London to head Departures, the magazine the company produced for American Express Platinum and Gold card members. Over the decade Walther transformed the nondescript magazine into a dynamic travel-lifestyle publication, one that posted substantial gains in advertising from 1995-1999. In the course of his tenure he took Departures into new travel-related editorial territory, including real estate, high-end luxury goods, men's style, fine jewelry, and home furnishings.
In May of 2000 Walther left Departures to launch Expedia Travels, a Ziff Davis publication aimed at the affluent traveler with an interest in using the power of the Internet to set his or her own itinerary. Walther has since worked as an editorial consultant for Worth magazine, advising on the design and creation of lifestyle editorial. Most recently, he worked as a consultant to Angeles Publications, a division of the Tribune Company, where he revamped Distinction, a lifestyle magazine sent to the most affluent zip codes in Los Angeles and Orange Counties.
