Spa Finder Appoints Neil Kurlander Senior Vice President, General Counsel & Corporate Development
New York, NY- January 10, 2003
Spa Finder, the leading spa marketing, publishing and travel company, today announced the appointment of Neil Kurlander as Senior Vice President, General Counsel & Corporate Development. This appointment is one in a series of key management shifts the company has undergone since Pete Ellis, founder of the leading automotive e-commerce company, Autobytel.com, acquired a majority stake in Spa Finder, Inc. in early 2001. As CEO, Ellis took over day-to-day operations in late 2001 and has completed a successful restructuring. Today's announcement illustrates his continued commitment to investing in talented management.
Previously, Kurlander spent more than 10 years as Vice President, Corporate Legal Affairs for Horsehead Industries, a privately held Fortune 500 company, where he played a major role in the consummation of approximately $1 billion worth of corporate financings, mergers and acquisitions and other commercial transactions, including the initial public offering of Horsehead Resource Development Company, Inc., as well as a major joint venture with the German conglomerate Hoechst AG, and $400 million in structured financings. While at Horsehead Industries, Kurlander held positions with approximately 20 of its subsidiaries and was responsible for all corporate governance matters for all of the Horsehead companies, including SEC reporting obligations for its publicly traded subsidiary. In addition, Kurlander worked as a corporate finance and banking associate at several major New York City law firms.
As Spa Finder's Senior Vice President, General Counsel & Corporate Development, Kurlander will direct all internal and external legal matters for the company, pursue and implement the corporate development of the Spa Finder brand, manage its human resource function, and also serve as Corporate Secretary with responsibility for all corporate governance matters.
"I am excited to be joining Spa Finder at such a pivotal moment in the growth and development of both the company and the industry as a whole," said Kurlander. "I look forward to working with Pete and the outstanding team he has assembled to further solidify Spa Finder's position as the leading spa lifestyle company."
"Over the last decade, the spa industry has been steadily booming. In 2001, we estimate that the U.S. spa industry alone was responsible for $12.5 billion in revenues and we expect that number to keep growing," said Pete Ellis, Spa Finder's CEO and Chairman. "I welcome Neil's extensive expertise in business development, corporate finance and human resource management. I'm pleased he has joined our team during a period of such explosive growth."
Kurlander received his law degree from Hofstra University School of Law where he was a member of the Hofstra Law Review, and has a Bachelor's Degree in Government from Franklin & Marshall College.
