Beauty Detox: Green Beauty Products to Clean Up Your Routine

Fact: 60% of what you put on your skin’s surface gets absorbed internally. Scary when we think about some of the ingredients in our favorite skin and hair care products and makeup, especially the ones that are pretty much impossible to pronounce. Years ago using “green” products may have had a stigma that they couldn’t possibly be as effective as their chemical-laden counterparts, but now clean beauty products offer up majorly effective results that can be seen and felt, completely guilt-free! We’ve rounded up some of our favorite green products so you can join us in our Earth Month beauty detox!

Farmaesthetics

In 1999 Brenda Brock created Farmaesthetics based on a belief of Sustainable Beauty® and proceeded to truly lead the way for a green beauty revolution. Her 100% natural face & body products use certified organic herbs, flowers, oils, and grains from local, family-owned farms and are sold at some of the best spas in the world. Two of our very favorites from the brand are the Vapor Bath Elixir and the Deep Lavender Rub, which are perfect as we transition from winter to spring and need to battle the inevitable sniffles.

The Vapor Bath Elixir ($31) is the brand’s “spa in a bottle” and coming from an gal that has gotten to experience many a spa day, it truly is an at-home spa experience. The green chlorophyll-infused elixir boosts immunity and clears congestion, all while helping you deeply relax with essential oils of menthol, clove, eucalyptus, lavender, geranium, and white camphor. The elixir can be used in three ways; create a steamy vapor tent by placing in a pan of hot water and covering your  head with a towel clear sinuses and pores, create a relaxing herbal soak by placing in a hot tub, or mix with a hot basin of water for a deodorizing footbath.

The Deep Lavender Rub ($25) has found it’s permanent home next to my bed. It’s an amazing chest and neck rub that produces heat with essential oils of ginger, rosemary, and eucalyptus – making it not only amazing for clearing congestion, but perfect for easing muscle tension while the relaxing lavender lulls you to sleep. 

Vermont, Naturally

In order to best reflect the state slogan of “Vermont, naturally,” Vermont’s own Twin Farms revamped it’s Out of the Woods Spa last fall to unveil a new treatment menu featuring two of our favorite green product lines, Tata Harper and Lunaroma. The products which are all locally made in Vermont will be used in treatments such as the full-body Honey Bliss (90-minutes; $125) which includes a sugar scrub, body masque, body wrap, facial, and massage and Personalized Facials (60-minutes; $175) which will repair the skin on a cellular level. As well, the in-room amenities have undergone a little green beauty detox of their own. Guests now enjoy Versante products, hand-crafted in Vermont using all-natural ingredient and eco-friendly packaging! If you can’t make it to Twin Farms to experience an all-natural spa experience I recommended Tata Harper’s Resurfacing Mask ($55) for a little at-home spa action! The beta-hydroxy mask works like a peel but with zero downtime and immediate glowy results thanks to pomegranate enzymes, French pink clay, and white willow!

Eminence Organics

One of my favorite eco-friendly lines is Eminence Organics, used in many prestigious spas, this Hungarian skin care brand has been one of the leaders in green beauty for more than 50 years.  In recent years the brand broke into the eco-friendly cosmetics market and, frankly I’m loving it! Some of my personal faves include the Organic Kiss Lip Gloss, which uses sweet almond, coconut, and avocado oils to nourish lips and add a touch of color and the Mineral Illuminator, which comes in two universally flattering shades to add a subtle, sheer kiss of color to cheeks and control oil with acai berry, green tea and vitamins.

When it comes to keeping my skin looking fresh I haven’t been able to get enough of their Neroli Age Corrective Hydrating Mist which I’ve all but attached to my hip.The mist instantly boosts collagen, firms, and tones skin with natural retinol alternative and Swiss green apple stem cells while coconut oil and milk works to balance pH levels and add serious hydration! For gentle cleansing in the morning I reach for the Coconut Milk Cleanser and follow up with the Coconut Age Corrective Moisturizer. Both products recently were my skin saviors after a little too much time in the sun on a recent tropical getaway thanks to their intensely soothing benefits.

Somersets

Shaving has always been a pain and a half for me, I’m incredibly inpatient with certain tasks and my legs always looked like I had gotten in a fight with my razor. Enter Somersets’ Women’s Extra Sensitive Shaving Oil ($6.99) and my legs are silky smooth and worthy of shorter hemlines! Popular for years in the UK and Europe, Somersets and it’s collection of shaving oils, gels, and pre- and post-shave products made of 100% natural oils derived from plants is now available in the States. Somersets products are also are perfect for the men in your life who frequently experience razor burn after shaving.

Decleor

Recently celebrating 40 years as a pioneer in aromatherapy, essential oils, and skin care, Decleor introduced aromatherapy to the cosmetics industry in 1974 and hasn’t faltered in providing us with high-quality, 100% pure, natural products. Their daily serums known as AROMESSENCE™ will change the way you look at skin care. While it’s hard to pinpoint a favorite, I’m recently loving the AROMESSENCE™ ROSE D’ORIENT ($68), which was created for sensitive skin types and uses damask rose, Roman camomile, neroli, and petitgrain essential oils to naturally soothe and soften skin. For evening out my skin tone without having to slather on a ton of foundation, I’ve been reaching for their newest product, BB Cream 24HR Moisture Activator, which uses wild pansy and samphire extracts, mineral pigments, grapefruit essential oil, moringa oleifera micro-proteins, and no mineral oil to deliver sheer coverage which blends flawlessly into my skin and improves tone and texture over time!
