The crisp air, the lingering smell of pumpkin treats…fall is here, and with it comes perhaps the best in beauty. From oxblood to accessories, we’ve rounded up what you need to know to stay on trend this season.

Perk Up Your Palette: Rich Hues

When it comes to fall, it’s all about color, according to Matt King, lead stylist at Manhattan’s Asanda Aveda Spa Lounge. “Perk up your palette,” he suggests. “Switch up your summer makeup palette with golden shimmer for eyes and wine-stained colors for lips.” From the runway to the red carpet, everyone is getting in on oxblood, a bad-girl version of burgundy-meets-merlot seen everywhere from face to fashion. Another color that nails it this fall, according to King? Timeless & Effortless Locks

The runways always give us a sneak peek for what’s in store for our locks in the coming seasons. Fall fashion shows highlighted this timeless and effortless updo, à la Ralph Lauren and Jason Wu. Zahir Ziani, national creative director for Elizabeth Arden Red Door Spa & Salon, shared one of the red carpet’s biggest trends: side-swept hair. “Celebrities are wearing their long hair swept over one shoulder, creating dimension and a sexy, femme fatale look. Asymmetrical styles like this work best with longer hair and look very sophisticated without being overly done.”  Ziani also says “headbands and barrettes will be very popular for the fall, and are perfect for when you aren’t sure how to style your hair. Even if hair is very simple or very short, they add a touch of sparkle, but be careful you don’t add too much.”

Post-Summer Facials for Healthy Skin

Okay, so when is healthy skin NOT a trend? But with the dry weather rolling in, our skin gets parched. King recommends getting a post-summer facial. “Salt water, chlorine, sand, sweat — they all take a toll on your skin, no matter how diligent you were with cleansing and moisturizing this past summer.  To get your face in top form for fall, [get] a facial to transition your skin into a new season.” After your facial, keep your skin glowing with creamy moisturizers and cleansers, and remember to always put on SPF —summer’s over, but that doesn’t mean the sun has gotten any less powerful!
