Bliss . . . A Day Spa
No showers! no bathroom! April 13, 2007
I had a massage and body wrap yesterday and it was possibly my worst experience yet at a spa. There was no way to rinse off the exfoliating salts, so my body was gritty when I left. The various "scented" scrubs shown me all had a musty smell and were obviously old. The masseuse had to be right out of school and had little skill as of yet. No robes! No showers! The bathroom was outside the spa and down the hall across from a mortgage company or something. I seriously doubt the survival of this sort of place. Prices were reasonable when I looked at the chart, but outrageous given the quality of the place.

High expectations met with less thrilling reality February 11, 2007
The Breakers is a great old resort and I was expecting a fabulous spa. It certainly wasn't up to the Ritz Carlton or Mandarin Oriental quality. I thought the design of the place rather tired and the services were competent but for the Breakers, one should expect, and get...more.
Lousy pedicure, nice massage, indifferent facial. I'd try a day spa over this one.

fabulous design combined with superb staff January 21, 2007 | 183 of 384 people found this review helpful
I booked a spa treatment room with sweeping glass windows looking on Biscayne Bay for my first visit to this great spa. There is a tub and shower on a platform looking out over the bay. All my services took place within this room. No padding about from room to room here.
I had a Lomi Lomi massage which was incredibly relaxing and a very gentle but deep cleansing facial. My treatments were done by the same woman.
The initial foot cleansing ritual is a way to focus on what you really need in the way of treatment instead of just what you want. I thought it was a nice approach but would require some intuition from the treatment person, something many spas would have trouble providing.
The hotel is fabulous as well with an awesome restaurant: Azul.
What an oasis in the middle of Miami.

really needs a big upgrade January 23, 2007 | 77 of 148 people found this review helpful
This spa has been here for quite some time. It was the first in the area and it is too bad that it has not kept up with current spa fashion. My biggest gripe is that it is poorly maintained. Cleanliness is ultra important and dirty upholstery and carpet and mildew do not equate with the prices of the services offered. The Four Layer facial is yesterday's treatment and the one I had on my last visit was really poorly done. I had a competent masseuse but if I am paying for a resort spa, I would like something more.
The hotel has been bought and sold so many times, it has to be hard to maintain any sort of quality. Unfortunately, this spa has been unable to rise to the challenge.

4 star resort spa quality in a day spa January 21, 2007
I've tried a lot of spas: Palm Springs, Palm Beach, the Mandarin Oriental in Miami, most of the Ritz Spas and I have to say that I was very impressed with the quality of treatments at my local day spa: Spada. I haven't been for a couple of years but joined the gym next door so I booked a massage and facial yesterday. My massage was the best I've ever had, which is saying a lot. The facialist was very competent and the treatments were devoid of the constant selling that I find in some day spas and in the big spas as well.
Spada has very pleasant waiting rooms and you are offered mimosas, teas and light snacks while waiting. The lighting is lovely and while not luxurious in the way a hotel spa would be, Spada would more than compete with many of them, including some resort spas in the Fort Myers area.
