Once you get the unfriendly old lady at the front desk, you'll love the service. I've been to this spa 3 times now. First massage experience was heavenly, I got hooked!! The facial was good for my skin. Then the latest spa package I got was also very good for the price paid!
The place itself is nothing to write home about but the spa services are great. The biggest turn off is the front desk lady. It wouldn't hurt for her to smile a little and not be so snooty booty.I would visit this business again? Yes
Just not my type of Spa November 17, 2007 | 61 of 120 people found this review helpful
I have been to at least 4 Spas in my life, 1 of them I go to frequently. But until last week I decided to come to Oriental Retreat because I wanted to try their service and possibly start going there instead, after all it was closer to where I live. The receptionist was very friendly, smells really nice once you get in there, lounge looks cozy.
I signed up for the monthly special (60min chinese healing massage, 40min reflexology, and FREE foot soak and free something else I don't think I got). They did offer the drink, I declined.
So I get changed into my robe, they take me to a room with faux leather chairs, and foot soak waiting for me, so I sit and soaked. A few minutes later they bring in a guy in his robe and told him they couldn't give him the body massage he signed up for, so would he consider feet massage? That was weird, but he accepted reluctantly. So they sit him next to me, weird again. No privacy and we were both naked under our robes, hello!!??
Then 2 asian women comes in, didn't even introduce themselves and just started the reflexology. That part was fine, some very firm pressure but overall fine. Then she starts flopping my legs up in the air "to loosen up" while my robe goes up and down my thigh!! Privacy? Hello??? There's a guy next to me. I am married yes, but not too shy but that was just inappopriate. It felt so uncomfortable. Then they finally take me to get a deep tissue massage, in a 2-person room, but thank God they didn't try to put any one else next to me. But the lights were so bright! It didn't feel or smell cozy or relaxing. So I lay there, waited for the therapist, she comes in, didn't introduce herself. Exposes my bottom like I didn't care, ok fine I'm bearing with it. But the massage was so painful. I do have knots on my shoulders and around the scapula but goodness, she left me in pain! Her strokes are very fast, it wasn't smooth and relaxing.
One more thing I just remembered, the ceiling in their rooms are open so I could hear the phone ringing and the receptionist the whole entire time. That's no way to relax. There was a subtle relaxing music in the background but it's not enough to drown out the noise at the front desk. For me, that was a constant reminder of how hectic life is. How do you relax like that? You could have a conversation with someone else from the end of the spa place to the other end.
Oh and the massage table makes squeky noises.
I don't know. Try it for yourself. This just isn't my type of Spa.I would visit this business again? No
