Exhale New York

A Real Disappointment October 15, 2011 | 19 of 32 people found this review helpful

Exhale New York
Overall rating based on: 0 of 1 (0 %) Customers would visit this business again

I had been to Exhale on the Upper East Side and really enjoyed it so I was looking forward to it when I booked a massage. Well, the spa itself does not match the the sleek look of the hotel itself. Rather the spa seems to encompass the meatpacking scene.... The massage rooms are not private like I was used to and are only separated by a curtain from the water therapy lounge area where you can hear people talk.....even though music is playing you can still hear people walking around and talking. The locker room facilities are small and cramped to say the least. In addition, the female attendant walked into the locker room while I was changing (I am a male). Really not a pleasurable experience and do not think I will return to this spa again.

The only reason they are getting 2 stars is because the masseuse was good and was not rushed. She was the only saving grace that this spa had. Do yourself a favor and book a spa elsewhere where rooms are private and you have larger locker room facilities.....

This is one of my favorite spas! The setting is warm and inviting and the water noise from the waterfall is soothing and makes you feel as if you're in a tropical setting.....the massage therapists are awesome and both times I have been there I have been impressed.

In addition, there is a small place which can be accessed from inside the spa where you can grab something healthy to eat. That's if you can break away from the steam or heat room or the pools. I especially love the lounges where you can sit and relax after a treatment.

I went to the Immersion Spa in AC and had an amazing time! The facilities were first class and the massage I had was awesome! The therapist was professional and thorough and the views were amazing from the room.

The only drawback was when I attempted to use a gift certificate to checkout....apparently Immersion's account was "locked" and my gift certificate could not be accepted so I had to use my debit card and 3 days later I still don't have a refund. Very annoying to say the least....would love to return but this is the kind of thing that leaves a bad taste in your mouth.

I had a wonderful time at the Mandarin Oriental. The spa itself is beautiful and sleek and the staff is attentive and friendly. You are greeted with a peppermint tea and then can use the facilities before your treatment.

I found the steam room small as well as the sauna....but if you go when it's not busy then it's ok....the experience shower is a great feature and the relaxation lounge is not to be missed.....the massage therapist I had was wonderful and the aromatherapy massage I had was something I will never forget.

A bit pricey and like I said on the smallish side but you will definitely remember this experience.

The Mandarin Oriental may be on the high end and pricey but I can assure you that the ambiance is on par with any exotic tropical paradise!

I went to the spa as a result of a special Wellness Week promotion since I can't normally afford such a decadent outing and I must say that I wish I had booked the whole week! My massage was scheduled for 7pm so just as the sun was going down I enjoyed the stunning city views from the relaxing lounge....the only downfall was that some idiot interrupted my relaxation when he came in talking about business on his cell fone! Geez! Don't people have any manners anymore??? I asked him to take his conversation to the lockers and he apologized but people please have some consideration - there's a reason it's called a relaxation room!

The overall atmosphere is serene and heavenly. My therapist Aaron was hands down the best I have ever experienced and followed up with recommendations and suggestions.....I will definitely make sure I ask for him the next time I am there! Yes, I will definitely treat myself to another special day at the Mandarin!

I went to Nickels for a 1 1/2 hour massage after experiencing a terrific facial. Unfortunately, I can't say that the massage lived up to the facial. My masseuse seemed to be in a rush when he started the deep tissue and then on top of it his cell phone went off during our session!

I have to tell you that after the terrific facial I had I was expecting more....but save your money on massages here and go elsewhere.....It was not what I expected!

I recently went to Nickels Spa for a micro-dermabrasion facial....when I got there I told my therapist that I was leaving to Miami the next day...he advised me against the micro-dermabrasion and recommended instead a herbal enzyme facial. And boy I was glad he did....one of the most amazing facials I have ever received. AJ was thorough and informative as he applied the different oils and scents....and even the blackhead removals (which I hate!) wasn't as bad....I will definitely come back. The staff was very nice and welcoming as well.

I booked a deep tissue massage here based on a friend's recommendation and I have to say I was pleasantly surprised. The price was amazing for midtown Manhattan (about $100 for 60 mins. which is unheard of at a hotel spa). And my therapist Jerry was awesome.....he was professional and was always making sure I was comfortable.

The locker room is small as is the steam/shower room (really only meant for 1 person) but you can't beat the price or quality of the massage!

I had originally booked a facial at Red Door on my first visit and had a wonderful experience so this time I wanted to try a swedish massage. And I must say that once again Red Door lived up to its expectations.

The spa itself is amazing....warm soothing color scheme set you at ease....large locker facilities so you don't feel cramped....if I have anything to pick on at all is that the men's steam room is a tad bit too hot.....and the shower next to the steam room which offers different kinds of water treatments was out of order but nevertheless these things are minor and can be fixed.

The massage itself was wonderful and relaxing with my therapist Darius asking me which types of oils he had available and the benefits of each...the only bad thing was that I wish I had booked a longer massage!

I will definitely be back....this was a real treat and I was happy to see that it lived up to the previous visit!

This was my first time at Red Door in Atlantic City and I must say it won't be my last. The front desk was extremely helpful in every respect. I was there for a signature facial and it was amazing. My facial therapist was named Cyndi and she was professional and explained everything along the way. I would definitely recommend her!

The spa itself is modern, relaxing and warm. They have separate men's and women's areas as well as a coed area.....You can stay as long as you like while they're open......and use the facilities....Overall one of the best if not the best spa in Atlantic City! Definitely don't pass this one up

I went to this spa as a gift from my son - I had never had a facial and as a surprise gift he treated me to the sensitive skin facial. All I can say that II have never been treated so wonderfully and experienced such a wonderful treatment. The staff was professional and the atmosphere was so relaxing that I actually fell asleep!

The facial was spectacular as my face was massaged and different creams were applied. In addition, all the toxins in my skin felt as if they were completely erased from my face....I don't know how to describe it but I can tell you I felt like a 20 year old after I left!

The Setai lets you live the luxury lifestyle you only see on TV or magazines. Without a doubt the finest spa facility in Manhattan. You are greeted by their friendly staff and then taken to their lounges where you can use the stem or dry heat rooms or the hydro-pool.

Just before your treatment you are taken to a lounge to relax and offered some champagne! Really top shelf all the way. I had a wonderful 1 hour aromatherapy signature massage which I will be going back for.

It's ironic that when you leave you are literally a couple of blocks from one of the most stressful places on the planet - the New York Stock Exchange! But leaving here makes you forget about the outside world!

I wasn't sure what to expect at Spa Toccare since I was spoiled at the Immersion Spa at the Water Club....and I knew that this place was older and probably not in the same class....but I have to tell you....one of the most pleasant surprises I have experienced!

This was one of the most relaxing afternoons I have spent at a spa....the relaxation room which was large and comfy had the March Madness tournament on which was a plus!

And the steam room was large and relaxing as was the sauna....the pool was great too! While the massage itself was ok, I still left with an incredible relaxing mood and can't wait to return!

Would definitely recommend it for guys! You won't regret it!

I had the deep tissue massage along with a scrub at the Standard. The grounds themselves are quite spectacular - lush and tropical - and add an air of privacy. My therapist was Juan and he was terrific. He hit all my pressure points and gave me some suggestions on how to avoid those knots! The treatment felt as if it were 2 hours when it was actually only one! That's how good it was! I definitely recommend this treatment and this spa.

Yes it's a bit of old world New York at the Peninsula and that's not a bad thing....the attention to detail at the spa is incredible. I arrived there early on a cold NY day and was so happy to see that they had a steam room and a sauna room! They may be small but if you go later in the day it tends to be less crowded.

My therapist David was incredible - yes I had a deep tissue massage and it was intense but the next few days I felt amazing!

The small attention to detail was what impressed me the most....this is certainly a first class spa on Fifth Avenue!

The spa at the Setai Fifth Avenue is absolutely a beautiful spa....there are only a couple of things I can pick on - all the robes seem to be size small and the massage tables seem to creek more than necessary but overall the facilities are beautiful. It's a little too well lit but I am sure they will adjust that to create a more relaxed environment. My therapist was very good...he gave me one of the best massages I ever had....the steam room is great as is the sauna.....it seems to be a new spa and there was some confusion at checkout but I am sure all of this will be worked out soon....I think I will give it some time to settle in before I come back but I will definitely come back.....

Didn't know what to expect when I made an appointment here....was going by the reviews and in NYC sometimes it's hit or miss with NYC day spas. Well I am happy to say that this spa took me by surprise!

Yes the locker room is small and there is only one shower in the men's locker but there is a steam room and best of all, the massage I had was amazing. I need to give credit to my therapist Diego - he was professional and made my neck strain pretty much disappear.

There are small little quirks I can point out but at the end of the day the end result was that I felt amazing and was quite pleased with my appointment at The Townhouse. I will definitely come back for a follow up visit and try another treatment.
