My 60th Birthday Celebration

For my 60th birthday, I decided that I would do something I’d never done before, travel solo. I was excited and scared about leaving the country to vacation on an island where I knew no one.
Since I had been to the resort before, I was familiar with the set-up. What was new was the way in which the staff interacted with the guests. When I arrived, I was met at the entrance gazebo and handed a cool cloth and a cold drink; it was a great start. I checked in and went to get my treatment schedule; guests receive at least one spa treatment as part of the room package.
I went back to the room and unpacked; it was after lunch so my next meal was dinner. I dressed for dinner and went down to the piano bar around 7:00 pm. I ordered a cocktail, feeling a little alone and out of place. Soon a lovely woman in her forties, Dotty, arrived and sat next to me and we started a conversation. We were joined by several other singles. A young man who worked for the resort explained his role as our ‘bodyguard’. Essentially, the bodyguard helps facilitate conversation at dinner for singles who wish to dine at the singles’ table. It was comfortable and fun and the friendships struck on that first night were strengthened during the week. I had a blast.
I would recommend this as a first resort for anyone wishing to step out and travel as a single. You feel protected, pampered and very at ease. The staff are incredible.
