Just after I booked my stay, I phoned the resort to schedule my spa services. The 4 services I wanted to book were unavailable at this location. The coordinator told me that since they had only been open one year, the staff wasn't fully trained to do all the treatments. They've been open for 1 year!!! Come on.

At check-in I had to wait about 5 minutes for the male staffer to leisurely order himself a pizza.

Once I got in the room, it was beautiful. The hotel, rooms and spa are wonderful. The staff-throughout the resort are not.

At the spa: The first massage was ok, but she just didn't the basic strength or knowledge to give a good massage. I did ask her once to use more pressure, but after about 4 minutes, it was back to an irritating light touch. 2nd treatment (another massage) was much better, however the 3rd treatment was the worst massage/scrub I've ever had. The therapist was awful, like she'd never given a massage before. It was so bad that I spoke to a manager about it afterward. So the spa, all though it's very pretty with marble soaking tubs and unique lighting, appears wonderful but overall its a disappointment

Long island lacks in quality spas, I've been searching and trying out places for the past decade looking for a really nice, relaxing spa with an excellent staff instead of some tiny, backroom mom & pop place. This Red Door location is small, but it's probably the best nassau county spa around. I have yet to have a bad service here and they have a small, but nice relaxation area, tucked away from the rest of the salon. I do wish they offered more of a selection of services, but beggers can't be choosers!

I started coming to Joseph Christopher about 10 years ago and I was extremely happy with the services and the staff. I had an appointment at least once a week for something. I was also happy when they opened the location in Bellmore and this review covers that location as well). About 5 years ago something changed. The estheticians that I had been frequenting moved on and then the services became sloppy. A facial from a staffer who just came back from a smoke break is not pleasurable in the least, her hands smelled horrible and so did her breath. It's hard to shell out $100 after that, even if if the receptionist did give partial credit. After that incident I did give it 2 more chances with different technicians, I didn't find either staffer more than average which was really disappointing. Average & below average spas are as common as pizza parlors in long island. Excellent spas are rare or just urban legend in LI.

My last visit was a few years ago, I'm hoping they have since regained the former professionalism they once had. Both the locations in Bellmore & Long Beach are nice, quiet, relaxing & visually well appointed. It might be time to give it another shot.
