Great Face & Body
A Feast for the Senses March 23, 2010 | 17 of 31 people found this review helpful
I’m no newbie to facials. I’ve been getting facials, massage and body treatments regularly for over 20-years at day spas and resorts throughout the world. When I was given a gift certificate to Great, Face & Body, I wanted to try them out. I loved their fun (urban) downtown location! Andre and Keith were so welcoming from the moment I walked through the door. I liked the personal attention from start to finish. You won’t get this kind of service at a larger day spa or resort! The hot tea extract as a welcome drink while filling out paperwork was warming and tasty on this chilly day in March. I am a firm believer that ambiance adds a lot to the overall spa experience. You can tell that Great Face & Body put a lot of thought and effort into designing the location with their clientele in mind. The facial room and area are Asian inspired and Zen-like with rhythmic world music playing in the background. The facial was the best I have ever had! Keith used some interesting Ayurvedic massage techniques on my face that I enjoyed very much and or rare to experience here. Thorough, and relaxing, there were no bright lights and no extractions. I particularly liked the fact the products are organic, natural and made right there on the premises. I could smell citrus, banana, pumpkin and wine……….what a feast for the senses. On my next visit, I will purchase your wonderful products. Thank you Andre and Keith for creating such a special venue right here in downtown Albuquerque! I will return often and will recommend you to my friends and clients. Miss T

Beautiful drive from ABQ July 11, 2010 | 71 of 162 people found this review helpful
I’m a local and received a gift certificate to Tamaya. I had forgotten how lovely the drive out is! The swimming pool is very difficult to get to from the spa and is quite a hike. You also have to pay extra to use the swimming pool facility if you are not a guest. The outdoor hot tub was very comforting on this beautiful day. I found the treatment rooms and overall décor rather bland. I did receive a very good massage and facial by two highly experienced and tenured staff. Although the products on the facial and the waxing were too intense for my delicate and sensitive skin and I broke out for days later. The body wrap was a big let down; you could not even smell the herbs. Had the esthetician not stayed in the room and given me a scalp massage, it would have been a complete waste of money. I was bad an ordered a delicious burger and margarita at the bar before I had to drive home. I had a great day at Tamaya and will visit there again.

Your Average Spa Experience June 17, 2010 | 22 of 43 people found this review helpful
I visited the newly re-opened La Bella Spa in Uptown. I have visited the Coors location a couple of times, the last visit being shortly after they closed the Uptown location. They were busy working on the location and you could hear hammers pounding and drills drilling. The staff at this location was pleasant enough, but not overly accommodating. Someone grabbed my robe while I was in the shower and of course my locker key was in the pocket, so it took about 30-minutes to find it.
The treatment I received was the La Bella Fiore Massage. I was disappointed it did not include more of a massage (only very light massage) and you could barely smell the lavender in the bundles. The water in the tub was cold and dirty.
In my more recent visit, I would have to say the Uptown location was an okay, or average experience too. The staff and massage therapist were nice and friendly enough; unlike what others have commented about.
It is more like being in a sterile beauty salon verses a relaxing day spa. It is very cold atmosphere and doesn't seem finished. The treatment rooms and waiting areas are so spartan. It was probably one of the most uncomfortable massage tables I have ever laid on.
La Bella has failed to provide some basic touches such as towel hooks, and bath mats when getting out of the sauna, and shower. And no amenities such as mousse and hair spray. The spa does not flow well. The vichy shower water was luke warm and I got chilly on the table during the Bella Dolce Sugar Scrub. The attendant ran the water continuously hoping it would heat up, which made it a loud and not a relaxing experience, plus a waste of water. The attendant, although nice, kept spraying water in my face and I felt like I was getting exfoliated with sandpaper. It was not that pleasurable of an experience.
In the dressing area, the hot tub was gurgling and making a loud noise. The shower water was even colder than the Vichy.
The only room with some warmth and color is the couple's suite which I got to see while on tour.
So I have to say, both La Bella spas are just about average! I probably won't return again as I usually like to visit different spas, unless they are exceptional and noteworthy!
