Laniwai -- A Disney Spa
Outstanding New Spa at Aulani February 8, 2012 | 13 of 19 people found this review helpful
I recently stayed at Disney's new Aulani resort and did two days of treatments at the Laniwai Spa.
The facility is lovely. There are separate women's and men's lockers, showers, sauna, steam room and waiting areas. There is also a coed relaxation lounge with padded lounge chairs separated by curtains, cozy throws and attendants bringing you tea.
The spa has a unique, coed outdoor spa garden (swimsuit required) with two hot mineral tubs, a large spa tub with waterfall, a cold plunge and a circuit of open air showers that blast you from different angles. The garden has plenty of lounge chairs and is divided up enough to provide some quiet areas. You can order food delivered to the garden from a spa menu.
The treatment selection is amazingly different from what I've found elsewhere, with many options that have a Hawaiian flavor. I had a coconut based treatment that included a scrub, massage, scalp treatment and wrap. It was fantastic.
This spa also offers a treatment called Kilikili, which is a Vichy treatment where you are massaged under a constant shower of body-temperature water. Spas in the US with Vichy shower treatment rooms are few and far between. It was one of the most relaxing therapies I've ever had.

Beautiful Facility February 8, 2012 | 31 of 66 people found this review helpful
The Mandara Spas are all beautiful, and this one is especially nice because it has plenty of space. The waiting room with a temple pavilion in the center is especially impressive.
The offerings are predictable, because it's a Steiner operated spa, and they all have pretty much the same treatments, with the usual sales pitch for products at the end. At least the quality of the treatments is reliable (good but not great). If you just want a standard massage or spa pedicure, you'll be fine here. But if you're looking for something really unusual or outstanding, look elsewhere.

Beautiful But Small February 8, 2012 | 48 of 88 people found this review helpful
I've been here twice: once for a pedicure and once for a massage.
Like other Mandara Spas I've visited, the facility is very attractive, with lots of carved wood and silk cushions. However, it is really very small. The pedicure station is pretty but not super comfortable. There is a tiny "relaxation"/waiting area with two long, hard benches and a couple of chairs. The women's locker room has two showers, a steam room and a sauna but no whirlpool. Amenities in the locker room are basic: for example, there are no hair dryers, though maybe you can request one. Treatment rooms are small but adequate.
The pedicure was excellent. When I had the massage, my therapist didn't do the greatest massage ever. It was an 80 minute massage and she spent maybe 20 minutes on my back, gave my arms and legs a quick once-over, then seemed to run out of stuff to do, so massaged my feet 3 times! However, she was very thoughtful about my comfort, so I give her points for that.
They do push products at check-out. No problems using SpaFinder gift certificates like cash, even (in one case) along with a discount offer I had from another site.
