Did you know, a one hour massage equates to 7-8 hours of sleep on the body?
There are countless benefits massage therapy can bring to your daily life. Some of the general benefits include:
- Overall relaxation
- Relief for tight muscles, aches, and pains
- Increased flexibility and range of motion
- More energy
- Improved mood
- Better sleep
The two most common massages for relaxation and stress relief are the Relaxation/Swedish Massage and the Deep Tissue Massage. Both massages are offered at all of our LaVida Massage Centers.
Swedish Massage is probably the most common of all massage therapies. The therapist will use a variety of strokes and pressures, as well as a movement of the joints. The four strokes most commonly used in this type of massage are: Effleurage (a smooth, gliding stroke to relax soft tissue), Petrissage (the squeezing, rolling or kneading that follows Effleurage), Friction (deep, circular movements that increase blood flow) and Tapotment (short, alternating taps done with cupped hands, fingers, or the edge of the hand). This combination of movements relieves muscle tension and can be both relaxing and energizing. Swedish Massage is a great introductory massage for anyone who is new to massage and simply wants to feel better.
Deep Tissue Massage
If you are experiencing soreness after a workout, slept wrong, feeling knotted from sitting at a desk all day, or just have some “trouble spots” from everyday activities, a Deep Tissue Massage may be just the solution. Deep Tissue Massage involves slow deliberate strokes that focus pressure on the layers of muscles, tendons, and other deep tissues under your skin. This massage, though less rhythmic than others, is ideal for pinpoint areas that need a little more attention. It can be an ideal addition to your regular therapeutic massage routine or used throughout the year when you are experiencing extra stress or conditioning.
