First time to a Hand & Stone
It was a good massage, but more of a 'maintenance' massage. I work in the service industry and landscaping so I try to get massages on a regular schedule. This is a place to get an affordable treatment, but save high expectations for the destination spas. Staff was great!

Bait and Switch
I have to tell you, I was extremely disappointed in the Center City Philadelphia spa. This was our first time visiting, and when I called for an appointment the front desk team sure didn't seem like they were too interested in our business. Nonetheless, I called back a second time and booked a couples massage and, since it was our first time visiting the spa, I asked for the introductory price offer on the internet. The receptionist explained on the phone that the introductory offer is for a Swedish massage, which is fine. No mention that my we couldn’t have the introductory massages together in the same room. When we arrived, the receptionist informed us that we could have the introductory massages in different rooms, or double the price and have the same massages together in the same room. I can’t help but feel like this was a “bait and switch”, especially since I specifically asked for massages together on the phone. We ended up walking out without getting massages, and I can honestly tell you that the lack of customer care (indifference) would prevent my wife and I from ever coming back to a Hand and Stone Spa. It seems like H&S really doesn’t need the business, or care if they get the business. Not for me!

don't get the stones
The stones were so hot they burned, and the masseuse basically just went up and down on my back with them. I actually asked her to stop and do a regular massage. I did not like the overall massage and won't be back.

Nice atmosphere
I enjoyed my facial at this spa and they seem to have really good prices for the services. The staff are very friendly and professional and the atmosphere was relaxing.

Great place, great price - will definitley be back
I recently had an 80 minute massage with Bill at Hand & Stone. I ran Broad Street and thought that this would be a good way to relax before the run...and it was! I had been in before for an eyebrow waxing and another time for an introductory massage with my girlfriends. Each time the staff was extremely friendly and very helpful. The place was clean and comfortable. The services were equally as good (and both of my friends who had facials said they really liked it, too). This last visit was exceptional. Bill took his time to review my paperwork and asked me about specific issues that I was having (as I had indicated on the forms). He gave particular attention to the areas that I needed work on and was sure to check with me to see if I was comfortable throughout the massage. I personally prefer a firmer massage and that is exactly what I got. He even did a few stretches (which felt awesome since my hips were a little tight). I usually don't like when people massage my feet but this time it was almost the best part of the whole experience! I have recommended this place to my friends and family and many of them have gone and had the same experience. I will definitely be back.

Do not go
Do not go to Hand and Stone on Locust Street. I took my fiancé there for a massage for Valentine's Day and left feeling less relaxed, more stressed and disgusted than when I went in.  First, I should say that I worked in a high end spa in a top hotel in Center City for two years - so I understand what a massage should be like.  This was not it. The person who did my service, Bill, was as unprofessional as can be. From the moment I walked in, he was running his fingers through my hair and telling me how "pretty" I am.  He spent very little time massage my back and leg muscles.  Instead, he had me roll over onto my back - without covering me or turning away so that he could see my body, then he started stretching out my legs... like a personal trainer would do.  He lift my knee to my shoulder then stretched it out to the side.  I paid for a Swedish massage and Bill was using the time for a free show.  I have never felt so violated.  He repeatedly made noises and said, "Yeah, that's the spot." This was not a massage it was a violation. My fiancé had a great massage and he would have been back every month to see his massage therapist, but, sadly, we will never return to this location or any other franchise location of H+S.
