What’s Best for Breasts? Breast Health & Nutrition

The topic of breast health is both emotionally charged but necessary to discuss. Given the mass amount of information surrounding breast cancer, I thought I’d distill some of it for you and share some simple steps to help you protect and prevent.

While the subject of breast cancer can get complicated, the good news is breast cancer prevention doesn’t have to be. There are many factors that weigh in to helping prevent cancer and one of these important elements is diet. Within Dr. T. Colin Campbell’s The China Study, there are about 8,000 statistically significant data points around nutrition and its link to cancer, including the four important risk factors that are affected by nutrition:

  1. Early age of your first menstrual period
  2. Late age of menopause
  3. High levels of female hormones in the blood
  4. High blood cholesterol

Exposure to excess amounts of female hormones including estrogen and progesterone leads to an increase risk of breast cancer. “Women who consume a diet rich in animal-based foods, with a reduced amount of whole, plant based foods, reach puberty earlier and menopause later, thus extending their reproductive lives. They also have higher levels of female hormones throughout their lifespan.” (Dr. T. Colin Campbell, The China Study)

So bottom line, to protect yourself against most cancers, especially breast cancer, begin by lowering your hormone levels and you do that by eating less animals and eating more plants.

Here are 5 steps that will correlate with Dr. Campbell’s research in order to help protect against breast cancer and many other degenerative diseases:

1. Make every breakfast a plant-based one! Start your day with oatmeal with almond milk and fresh berries instead of bacon, eggs, butter, animal-based (whey protein) smoothie drinks or greasy animal-based breakfast sandwiches. Make a breakfast smoothie with spinach, frozen fruit, a bit of water, and almond milk. Use organic Stevia to sweeten if necessary.

2. Take one day a week and go totally meatless… Meatless Monday has a nice ring. (Get great vegetarian recipes here.)

3. Incorporate almond and other nut milks into your world for good and ditch cancer-promoting cow’s milk.

4. Eliminate eating cheese for one week and see how you feel.

5. Limit eggs to no more than 2 a week and be sure to make them organic!
