Work life balance isn’t an easy task to juggle and more often, vacations have become a necessity to manage todays demands. In 2018, researchers at Cornell University found that people who have positive emotions have lower levels of inflammation. This can lead to chronic health issues like heart disease and being overweight. A vacation is a prescription for happiness and an excellent way to take your mind off work. These vital breaks will improve your physical health and give you a chance to spend time with friends and family. Taking time to nurture these relationships is important to your mental health and wellbeing.
But I Don’t Have Time
If you think you don’t have the time–or money–for a longer vacation, plan weekend getaways or simply take a Monday and Friday off work and vacation at home. Long weekends can be a great time to visit a museum, take the hike you’ve always wanted to try or treat yourself a relaxing spa/wellness day. Just as important as sightseeing and new experiences is the relaxation component of a vacation. Tempted to take a working vacation? Rethink it. Even if you are a calm and resilient person, overwork and stress can harm your health–and that’s not a good investment.

Before, it used to be a break entailed a beachfront getaway or a cabin in the woods. Today, vacation options have evolved. Experiential trips or transformative retreats gain popularity as stress continues to rise. People seek healthy escapes where the food and the activities will benefit or change them in the long term. Adrenaline inducing vacations are on the rise as are getaways where people can realign themselves with a digital detox.
