Sámas at the Park Hotel Kenmare

County Kerry, Ireland

The Gaelic translation of this hotel's spa name—"indulgence of the senses"—says it all. SÁMAS, Ireland's first deluxe destination spa, is the exclusive privilege of guests at the Victorian-era, 46-room hotel next door. Atop a wooded knoll, the stainless-steel-and-glass spa has made a big splash with its new underground lap pool, another first in the country. Rituals are enhanced by such workouts as Pilates and yoga, and include hot-stone therapies, body polishes, and acupressure massages. These are offered in treatment rooms or his-and-her suites with a laconium heat chamber, sauna, and steam room. For a change of pace guests take moonlight meditation walks, golf on the adjoining 18-hole course, or sample whiskey during evening tastings.
