This is the best spa on Staten Island. Very peaceful atmosphere. This spa is very clean and the staff is friendly. I will definitely be returning to this spa in the future.

I booked my wedding here.

It was a disaster. Over the months leading up to it, I told my relatives to call and make an appointment. Each time a relative called they were told "You don't need an appointment." Every. Time. One week before the wedding, someone called me and said "You MUST call every relative and tell them they NEED To make an appointment NOW." I dropped everything and me and my MIL began calling relatives. All of whom, when they called were told "What? You dont need an appt..." It was like some kind of joke except it actually happened. The day of the wedding, I got a massage and eyebrow waxing. The woman doing the massage talked the entire time. It was not relaxing at all. The woman who waxed my eyebrows dripped wax into my hair all down one side of my head. This was on the day of my wedding. Don't ever go there. It's a complete waste of your life. Go for a walk outside in the surrounding office park. It's more enjoyable than a trip to this hot mess.

Response from Grotto Spa, The

I am the owner of The Grotto Spa and your review was very disheartening to read. First, I am sorry that you were not satisfied with your experience at my establishment but I wish that you would have said something at the time you were here. Business owners like myself can't deal with an issue unless we are aware of it. As for your comments, I know there must have been some disconnect between the hotel staff and spa staff with regards to the necessity of making an appointment. Here at the spa, taking appointments is our top priority and we do allow walk-ins provided we can accomodate them. There isn't one staff member at our reception desk that would turn a person away from making a concrete appointment. Knowing ahead of time what our schedule looks like makes our day run much smoother than fitting in a large number of walk-ins. As for the massage experience, we did have a new therapist on staff that was recently let go for talking through a massage but not until a client alerted us upon leaving the massage room. We are quick to address issues and compensate clients when a staff member does not provide the level of service expected of them. Business owners like myself are very approachable and welcome the opportunity to fix a situation as it is happening before you leave disgruntled and dissatisfied. I would love to discuss your experience further so please feel free to contact me. In the future, please talk to management at an establishment when you have a problem, it is much more constructive than trying to rectify situations months later.

Great Service and Friendly Staff

Although the Grotto Spa is in a hotel and I was not staying at the hotel, I heard great things so I booked a facial appointment. When I got there the day of the appointment I had a luncheon to go to later in the day and my nails were a mess. I asked if it was possible without the appointment for me to also have a manicure and pedicure done as well and I was very pleased that they fit me into the schedule to get my nails done before the facial. The service was great and everyone was super nice. While I had my pedicure done I sat back and relaxed in the calm environment with the cup of coffee they made for me. My manicure and pedicure looked very nice. The facial procedure was relaxing, the extraction was not bad at all and I felt the difference on my skin. My skin was glowing. Everyone was very professional and although it is a hotel spa, I do recommend it to all locals as myself.
